Next knife is going to be a Dozier fixed blade, I just can not decide which one. I am looking for a utility knife that I can take camping. I probably will not be skinning anything anytime soon and am trying to chose between slim outdoorsman, personal utility, reverse tanto or the general utility. I guess I would just like to here from anyone that uses Dozier knives and how they feel about them. Also any recomondations and possible custom upgrade ideas. The four month wait will be a tough one.:)

Make a call into Dozier Knives, and talk to Bob's wife Linda. She is very knowledgeable on the Dozier product line, and can tell you the differences between the thickness of each model’s grinds. You may want something slightly thicker for outdoor use, to get some added durability. Just be specific as to what the knife will be used for, and she’ll give you some great advice. Bob also has a new discussion board open on his website. Post up there to get some good feedback.

If you like flat grinds, A.G. Russell will soon be carrying a new part of the Dozier line, which is semi-production.

Pro Guide's knife works for me. It's not too big to be bulky but plenty big enough to take care of anything that needs to be cut. If you don't wanna wait four months, check out A.G. Russell's site and buy one out of his stock. Unless you are getting custom work done on your knife, of course.

All the best,
Mike U.

I have a Dozier K-9. It is a wonderful knife. With the cross draw horizontal sheath, it disappears with a t-shirt pulled over it, and it will not get in your way. I think A.G. Russell has the Straight Personal with yellow micarta on his website for sale without the lead time. I am not into yellow micarta, so I ordered one from Dozier with black micarta handles. Big D1

I guess I will have to call Linda and try to get something extra special. Like stag handles if available. I have the Camp Tramp for bigger jobs. I was drawn to Dozier because of smaller size and of course all of the positive reviews around here. The horizontal sheath and it's discrete qualities.

Good call. Dozier and stag are a great combination. :D

I just got this knife back from Bob, after he outfitted it for a Wilderness style sheath. Bob shocked me yet again with the sheath. He's taken Kydex to a whole new level with the Wilderness sheath, and actually molded a release system into it. The dropped belt on the sheath is also a great innovation, getting rid of the stiff belt fit that vertical Kydex sheaths so soften have. It may very well be the best Kydex sheath design out there, designed especially for outdoor use.

Do yourself a favor. Order a couple of different styled sheaths with your Dozier. Sheaths are cheap, and it’s a heartbreak to send a knife back for another sheath. I felt positively naked without my Dozier for a couple weeks. Having different carry options is a great and wonderful thing.

Buzzbait, very nice indeed. I am a sucker for stag. What Dozier model is that? Big D1

Buzzbait you LUCKY bastid!
That has to be the sweetest system I've seen from the Dozier shop to date.
The stag and that Dozier blade look like they were made for each other. Do you know if Bob is gonna incorporate that thumb break into (most)all his sheath designs?
Normally, I shudder at the thought of putting a stag handled knife in a kydex sheath. To me Kydex goes with man made handle material like G-10, Micarta etc., but it works really well here.
I may have to re-think my old fashioned feelings on that concept.
Thanks for posting those pics!:D

You got it. That's "Doris", my precious Dozier K-4. It's an awesome light utility knife. It has a very thin grind to it, hard as rocks D2, and a wonderfully pointy tip. What's kind of odd is that Bob Dozier has a reputation of being a maker of "using knives", and not much is said about his more hidden talents. Bob does great work with stag!!!

My next Dozier, which is now on order, is a convex ground K-1 General Utlity. I've had the pleasure of testing a convex ground prototype that Bob made, and it is simply outstanding. This General Utlity should make for a perfect small EDC blade, both in the city and the field.

Here's Bob's hand made prototype for the flat ground style that he will be doing. Got this at the Guild Show. You can't really tell it's a flat grind in the photo:

standard

Features the wilderness style sheath like the one Buzz showed you pix of above.

Misque - I know what you mean. I originally purchased Doris with the basic vertical Kydex sheath. While it was very well made, it just didn't look like it should go with a stag handled knife. Also, I've always been of the "old fuddy-duddy" school, preferring leather sheaths. Bob's Wilderness style sheath has forced me to rethink my fuddy-duddy ways. It is as close to functionally perfect as I’ve found.

And yes….. I’m a very lucky bastid’ :D

Blues - GORGEOUS!!!

The stag looks very nice indeed, that is exactly what I am looking for. I was thinking the next step would be leather but the kydex looks excellent. I may have to copy you a bit, but I still need to decide on the style. Even harder now with the posted pics. I think I will probably end up with more than one.:D

Bob's doing flat grinds? What next, a Chris Reeve flat too? Does look interesting though. That prototype profile is very much like the Dozier Master Hunter I have, though it is the Dozier standard hollow.

I certainly agree that a Dozier is a great knife for all sorts of chores. I think either the K-4 or the Slim Outdoorsman will suit your application. I have a K-1 as well as the MH and will be looking at his new line up. The K-1 is, so far, the over all best of my considerable collection of small shop and hand-made knives in that size class. Some are prettier, and some better than the Dozier at a few tasks, but the Dozier still takes the prize for over-all best general purpose utility blade.

Chip, What model Dozier is the one you've pictured? Do you have any dimensions on it? I really like that blade shape.

Bob makes awesome using knives. IMHO, they are the best. I've been using one of his Yukon Pro Skinners for many years and it's by far my favorite knife to have on my belt when I'm in the woods for any purpose.

I love the look of his stag handles. Looks like I'm gonna have to orfer me a new Dozier! :D

You cannot go wrong with a Dozier! Either call Linda at the Dozier shop or A.G. Russell to talk about which Dozier is right for you.

AJ

Nobody,
It is a Dozier Retro 1970's Hunter.
4-1/2” clip point of 3/16” stock with a 4-3/8” handle, brass hilt, and black, red and brass spacers.
AG Russel was selling them awhile back.

Some really good advice here, mate.;) If you can't find a
Dozier that you like then ask Bob to modify one or make one
just for you. He did that fo me and it's swell woods blade. :D

I am already sold. I am just looking around the house for stuff to sell. I think I will go for the slim outdoorsman from AG with horizontal sheath, great for the city. And then put in an order for a stag handled beauty wilderness style for the woods. Then I would be one serious happy camper. :)
