Hiya blade forum members. I am calling on your help once again. I started my membership here requesting info on the zt560. Which many had very good things to say about it. Thanks!! i since purchased the zt560 and wow.. Its everything ive read and more.. I love this knife. I can see this knife being passed down in family generations. Was def worth the buy. But thats not why im writing this post.

I am in the market for a new knife. I collect knifes as sorta a hobby.. I love em more than i really use em.. lol Pry have 50 or so in my collection. Most serve no purpose (fantasy knifes) Only recently started getting into practical knifes that will be used on a every day basis. Why the ZT560 was my first pick. Been carrying this knife around as a EDC for a few months now and its awsome.. but a bit big. And find myself keeping it in my pocket as to not scare people as i pull it out. I figure its a knife I would carry while doing outdoor activities (Hiking, Camping, Cutting firewood) Not one id carry every single place i went. (Tad to big). So ive been looking at something a little bit smaller but still very nice. One that caught my eye was the Spyderco Para 2. Looks nice and has great reviews.. but worried it may still be to big.. or that i wont like it coming from a Zt560. Can anyone comment on this subject.. about the Spyderco or maybe a completely different knife?

Note: I have never owned a Sypderco knife.. Every time i look at one online it just looks cheap. Which i know is not the case. Just need to get past the visual aspect of it and really hold one and try it i guess. Ohh...I also looked at the benchmade griptillian. At any rate id like a knife around 3" Blade or smaller, Light weight.. Good steal. And nice looking.

Also.. anyone know the knife laws in Virginia? Ive searched all over and all I can find is there is none for folders. Straight from the VA website and all. Some people say 3" others say none.. Allot of mixed results. Best i can gather is "Within reason" An other words why would a person carry a large knife in public areas.. Not illegal but why.. and that gets the police attention. Shoot just the other day i saw a person carry a fixed knife in a post office, clearly visable.. but no one said nothing. Blade length must have been 7" or greater. I dont live in a major populated area.. ALLOT of farms around me. I figure my zt560 is legal within reason. Running on the trail near me for example would be legal. But not bringing it with me to my sons graduation from pre-school. Carry for work (Construction).. but not getting food from walmart kinda thing. Is the law in VA basicly Use your own judgement? if ya question it ya better not kinda thing?

You can't go wrong with a Spyderco, in my opinion they are the most intelligently designed folders on the market. At the cheaper end of the price range you have the Delica and Endura, both excellent knives. Then you have the Para 2, which is probably their best known model. Personally I am partial to the Sage series, where you can choose from 4 different types of locking mechanism, but really just about any Spyderco is going to be a great knife, just pick the one that meets the specs you are looking for.

I live in SW Virginia as well.. Outside Wythevilla area. Never had an officer say anything but then again not sure anyone really seen it.. As the Zt560 is a deep carry folder. Ive read that page before.. and it doesn't specify length on folders. I figure its kinda a gray area... if you can justify having a sizable knife for the area your in its cool.

Thanks for your replys.. I havn't looked at the sage series.. Ill check em out. At first i looked at the military.. but thats even bigger than what i have and so i found the para 2

Oooo... Sage series looks nice as well... Considering this as well.. thanks for mentioning it!

I love my Sage 1. It has kicked every other knife out of work pocket. I carry it everyday at work. On weekends I carry my dragonfly nishijin.

My favorite small Spyderco is the Caly3 Carbon Fiber (C113CF) with a 3" blade of Laminated ZDP-189 / 420J2 weighing in at just 3 ounces.

The caly 3 is soo sweet! It fits the hand perfect! I just got one for my dad and now I'm looking for one for me!

I would say the Endura 4 Full Flat Grind or the Para 2. I'm constantly trying to find a way to give them both the attention they deserve. You can't go wrong with either one!

So from everyone response i should def go for a Sypderco? Kinda figured... was just wondering if there was a certain knife out there everyone wants thats out of the ordinary. I asked this same question a few months ago i woulda been directed toward Sypderco... but really the ZT560 was more "Unique". I dont mind spending money. ($500 limit on next knife) I believe you should spend money on what you love.. skimp on the rest. I Spend money on Shoes, Computers, Knifes and my newborn daughter :) Shes got a car seat worth more than my Zero Tolerance.. lol But yeah.. i just want an awsome folder.. Tell ya what... tell me the top 5 BEST OF THE BEST. I know about steels and metals.. Im refering to user exp... Was it better than you expected? ect ect. Im open to all suggestions

Are you still limited to your original criteria?

"At any rate I'd like a knife around 3" Blade or smaller, Light weight.. Good steal. And nice looking."

That's why I responded with the Spyderco Caly3 (C113CF).

My ZT560 is made with Elmax steel.. I remember reading allot of good things about elmax... Most said it was better than s30v, s90v. best of out 10 different steels used for knife blades. Personalty its 10 times better than my old S&W folder which i think was 440 something or other. Ive always loved knifes.. I donno why. Clean sharp blade is just amazing to me. This forum is awsome... Learning allot

Ok.. two awsome knifes were mentioned in my post.. the sage and caly. They look somewhat similar can anyone give me a comparison? Dont forget i was with the para 2 originally. How does the para 2 compare.. They all look about the same size

you should check out the benchmade 950 rift or the 810 contego you can find them for under $130 very awesome knives for the price super smooth and strong lock and made in the usa

She's gonna feel silly when the knife saves her in a car wreck (god forbid). Sparco car seat FTW.

Chris Reeve Small Sebenza 21 has a 2.94" S35VN blade, titanium handles and still weighing less than 3 ounces. Amazing quality and based on the handle art you'll pay $400-$500. With the handle art you can make a statement.

Nutinfansy review on the 950 rift is awsome... Enough to include that in my selection. There all awsome knifes... which do it pick?

Thanks for the reply on the sebenza 21... But thats not quite what im looking for. To expensive for what it is IMHO. looking for a nice quality knife that i wont mind putting abuse to
