So being a knife knut, i get alittle uncomfortable about every month...... with my knife "collection" "accumulation" or whatever you'd like to call it. sometimes i can fight it and stick to what i have, but sometimes the urge is too strong. so i've been looking at knives, gazeing at the pictures, thinking about them night and day. and so i've narrowed it down to 2 different knives. Mini muskrat (CV or stainless) or humpback half whittler (only comes in stainless, which is somewhat unfortunate)

ofcourse the right answer is buy them all, but my wallet is telling me i can only buy one. and im no good at makeing decisions. so i'd like to have some opinions on the knives. and you can suggest different ones too.

Thanks,
Scott

Come to the Shenandoah Valley Knife Collectors Show this weekend and look em over real good! I'm sure you'll see something you like!

I would really like to attend this show, I'm about two hours away. Scott, I have heard very good things about the show. Lots of members from BF attend. If you are in Virginia, close to MD, check out the small Hagerstown knife show the end of this month also. Mason Dixon knife show, used to be in Frederick MD.

also asked this in general but does anyone have any experience with the dixie gun and knife shows in north carolina? is there a good selection or are the knives an afterthought?
i would perhaps like to get an ankermesser or a higonokami but i dont know if they would have oddball items like that.
i have no experience with humpback half whittlers or muskrats knives so i am afraid i have no direct answer to the op.

I can't help you. TLarbb posted a picture that made me order one of the GEC Eureka Jacks.... even though it wasn't what I really wanted. Luckily the place let me change my order and I ordered a Northfield Outlaw Jack in Cocobolo. I'm not sure how I can help you decide when I can't help myself.

well i doubt i'd be able to go to any of those, it's still quite far from where i live (central VA, about a 30 minutes drive below richmond), and i'd need a ride and i dont know anyone that would want to go. :P
but if somehow i find myself in that general area this weekend i'll be sure to check it out :P

Thanks,
Scott

well thanks to someone elses post, i have another one to add to the list of knives i want.... Buck 309.

Thanks.....
Scott

Well, you've been part of this forum for nearly 2 years now. I would think you would know better than to come here asking for advice to restrain you from getting a knife. This place is the place to come when you need somebody to enable you. My question to you is - Do you have a Texas jack?

Maybe one like this:

no i dont have a texas jack, and i actually dont have any sodbusters (i know that's kind of necissary, but just havent gotten around to it yet :P). but right now im just hopeing to make a decision on a knife to get, not restrainment. My problem is that im horrible at decideing on things. but thanks. now i do need a texas jack aswell, and a sodbuster..... so 5 knives now... humpback half whittler, mini muskrat, Buck 309, Texas jack, and sodbuster. but i can only afford 1 (for now).....

Thanks.....
Scott

Have you tried any Schatt & Morgan knives yet? If not, you're in for a real treat. Largely overlooked and underrated, they can be real gems.

Actually i was thinking on getting stainless, havent had a stainless knife yet, besides that tiny trapper, but i never used that... i do really like that humpback half whittler.... and also like the Buck 309.... and the mini muskrat, and the texas jack and sodbuster and gosh knows how many more. gosh, you are right, comeing here for "restrainment" is like going to a bar to quit drinking.

I have been fighting the urge to buy a GEC Pemberton (2 bladed) and Conductor/Whittler (love the crazy GEC acrylics) as well as a Case Wharncliff Mini Copperhead. But alas no new knives for now have some other projects for my $$ :(

Thanks Billym.... i forgot about the mini copperheads.
6 now: humpback half whittler, Mini copperhead (wharncliffe ofcourse), mini muskrat, 309, texas jack and sodbuster.
you'd almost think your guys were getting royalties for every knife purchase made, with the way you suggest things i dont need....

Edit: i might actually just save a little bit more and try to get a GEC boys knife (single spearpoint blade, ebony scales. if i can find one for sale)

Thanks,
Scott

After looking at the two knives you mention in your OP, both are similarly sized and I don't think you will go wrong with either of those knives. Your statement in the OP regarding the humpback half whittler, "only comes in stainless, which is somewhat unfortunate", led me to believe that you were wanting a CV knife. But no matter.

I personally would be inclined toward the humpback half whittler because it has two different blades.

The GEC boy's knife you mention is a fine choice, but you would have to get one as soon as you find it as they go quickly. Try collectorknives.net for that.
