Next knife?

After looking at the two knives you mention in your OP, both are similarly sized and I don't think you will go wrong with either of those knives. Your statement in the OP regarding the humpback half whittler, only comes in stainless, which is somewhat unfortunate, led me to believe that you were wanting a CV knife. But no matter.

I personally would be inclined toward the humpback half whittler because it has two different blades.

The GEC boy's knife you mention is a fine choice, but you would have to get one as soon as you find it as they go quickly. Try collectorknives.net for that.

i just meant it was somewhat unfortunate because if i like it i would probably want one in CV too :P
and yeah, i cant find an ebony spear point one anywhere.... especially the single blade ones, you'd think they were wiped from existance.

if you are getting a buck 309 you might also just as well get a 301. classic knife.

and have you tried an opinel or a mercator black cat yet?

Unfortunately for us knife knuts, GEC produces knives in very limited quantities. Where Case might make 500, 1000 or more of their popular patterns, GEC might make 100. They do occasionally come back around and make more, but generally not in the same configuration as the original runs. The ebony spear points are bought up. If you want one, you might upgrade your membership and add a WTB in your signature line.

Sometimes folks buy more than one and will occasionally offer one up to a fellow member that is wanting one.

The GEC website currently has a picture of unassembled Barlow spear blades in a box.

i'd be up for that, mainly just like the looks of the swell end type handle, combined with a spear point blade. (and ebony is always a plus :P), so hopefully i'll be able to get one of those.
well i guess that solves my problem, have something to look forward to which outweighs anything i can get right now, in both looks(atleast what i figure it might look like) and F&F.

Thanks,
Scott

I won't try to suggest a knife for you...here, but I tend to go to my favorite knife sights and put a knife or (more often) knives in my "cart" and then work on setting aside money for the order. I still don't get to order more than once a month (or sometimes even longer if I get too ambitious and run the total up). It still takes a while but you can take your time deciding and then have the order ready (unless of course they end up out of stock which can cause breakdowns).
