I bought my first Becker ,a bk10, based on input from this forum and I figured it's time to ask again. What Becker do you guys think I should get next. I've been looking at the
Bk-4
Bk-9 and the
Bk-12
Any input is extremely welcome

I'd go with the 4 as well. It's such a versatile design if you hadn't played with one yet you will be very surprised on how well it does the small work.

4's one of the ones I bought and don't have any more. Not a big fan of that one. The 9, on the other hand, I love. I like the big ones--9, 6, and RBK. And the 5. Also the medium sized ones (10). And the smaller ones (15, 16, 17).

If your looking for a wood copping knife than you should get the bk-9 or you can get a bk-7 for a big knife.

The 9! Honestly, I love the 12, but it's so comparable to the 10 that you already bought I would say get the 9 next, then the 12...then the 14, 16, 5, 11...you get the idea.

I agree that the 12 is very close to the 10, so I wouldn't be in a hurry to get the 12. If chopping is a priority for you, then I agree that the 9 makes the most sense to get next. If cooking and general camp chores are more important, then I'd move the 5 to the top of the list. Then, the 14/24, which would give you a couple of large and a small Becker. Then hit the tweeners, get the rest of the large, then finish with all the small ones. Then repeat....

Since I already have a 9....I'd most definitely, without a second thought, go for a 4.

Similar to what billygoat and GSO said above, getting a 12 is like doubling up on the 10. Get the 4, it makes sense.......and you'll love it!!

Thanks for all the info guys, I now have it narrowed down to the 4 and the 5. How the does the 5 hold up to batoning and can it chop?

The 5 has a swedged spine so it's not ideal for batoning. It's a bit thinner stock too I believe.
If you're looking for the best chopper it's gonna be the 9. It's a beast.

The 5 is a great camp/all purpose knife. It's very quick and nimble and wields itself as if it were a much smaller knife.

The 4 is also a great choice for all around camp/woods work. Plus...the 4 is soooo much fun to use!

It would be hard to recommend you one if you're looking at the 4 or 5. They are both teriffic and you won't be dissapointed in either knife.
Good luck!!

The 9 significantly outchops the 4 when it comes to the bigger stuff.
But I think the 4 is a more versitile camp and woods tool.

I agree the 4 is a more versatile camp and woods tool, but I think the 4 can hang with the 9 as a chopper, considering it is a smaller blade. I do give the 9 a slight edge in chopping, but if you have the snap-cut technique down, the 4 can hang.

I will say the 4 turned out to be a much, much better chopper after putting a high convex grind on it. The snap-cut technique does help a lot, but the 9 can out chop it every time.
If I had to choose just one of the two....it would probably be the 4. I just find it to be the most versatile Becker in the whole line up.
