Next logical step in the addiction...?

Hey guys, I know these threads are a dime a dozen but....

Well its only been a week or so and now I'm itching to round out my small (but AWESOME) Busse family.

I have my small EDC needs covered: Tiger Warden
I have my med bushcraft/med EDC needs covered: Muddy Active Duty

Now I'm looking for a real all-around, jack of all trades, camping/outdoors blade that can get er done regardless of what I throw at it - a real monster. I'd like to stay between 5-7 (this is a large blade to me).

I've been doing a bit of research but all the choices are still a bit overwhelming - so what are considered some of the all around favorites in this category? From my research I'm thinking:

-Badger Attack
-ASH1 or
-NMSFNO (what the hell does that stand for? Edit: got it!)
-The new Tankbuster

Not really digging the SAR5. I really like the looks of the HG55 but think its too specialized (its a fighter right?) to be a good all around camping blade - I think I need a blade with a bigger belly hence my choices above...

I'm trying to stay under $325 which seems reasonable for the above blades as determined from recent sales threads (I dont mind a user).

What do you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance for the help - I really appreciate it!

Sounds like you need a tank buster...

Especially since you'll be able to order one at shop price in a few days... although it'll be a while before production I would imagine.

Next logical step is to buy an AK of some sort, grind it down into dust and mainline it, yo. If yer gonna be addicted, go . . . . . (oh come on, you all know it's coming). . . . whole hog!

Thanks pushingmongo for letting me in on the acronym - could not have guessed that ;)

@ foxyrick, crossed my mind but, I was thinking of going with a more tried and true design... Not that the tank buster wouldn't be a good choice. I will definitely keep it in mind and add it to my list :D

Thanks for the replies guys.

the tank buster will be a lot bigger then I think people expect. it's a beefed up satin jack sized blade, and if you get the no-choil hammer pommeled version, it'll be even heavier with even more blade. at 11.5" with a 6" blade and .25" thick, it'll be at the ragged edge of edcarryable. however, I don't think it can compare to the nmsfno for chopping power.

might also be worth noting the break down in acronym parts
NM - special corner treatment (as apposed to N, which would be "nuclear", or having a sharpened top edge on the spine)
SF - handle designation (as apposed to F (fusion), TAC (tactical), EDC (every day carry), and whatever the new gamewardenish one is called... jerry said it in the bussmuk threads...)
NO - blade model

I think you would be very happy with 1 a BA, 2 aSAR4 or 3 a skinny ash, i use these three the most ,i live in the woods and use my Busse's constantly. There are bigger Busse that are better choppers, but these three i think are the best all around camp type knives.

The perfect choice for a great all around do it all camp knife is the skinny ASH. Dont let the word skinny through you off, the knife is a work horse and will handle all you can through at it. It is a great knife and you will be very happy with you decision.

YMMV!!

An excellent choice. If not the skinny, then one of the regular ASHs (there are plenty out there).

Also look at SAR4 and the HellRazor (a much better knife than folks realize).

Any one of these 3 knives should be readily available.

There are good choices among the classic Busse knives, but I think they're too expensive for this purpose.

I'd say it depends what you want to do with it - if you want to chop and baton, the NMSFNO will probably fit your needs better - it's a heck of a chopper for a knife that size (assuming you get one that's sharp ;) ), but if you want a more generic camp knife and don't plan to process large amounts of firewood, then others out of your list might be better suited.

Hey guys thank you very much for all of the responses and great info! I learn a ton every time I check up on the boards.

I think I'm leaning towards a skinny ASH-1 at this point - such a sweet looking blade.

However, I'm still digging the NMSFNO - what a monster! But, I usually carry a hatchet for major chopping which seems to be the NMSFNO's forte...

I know this is a tough question but, what would be the advantage of picking up a Tank Buster over the ASH1 (other than a good price and getting options of my choosing)?

Well, tomorrow I'm heading to Wisconsin for the week to visit with my wife's family so, I think I'll step back and stay glued to the exchange (God bless the iphone) and see if any good deals on an ASH1 and/or NMSFNO pop up... :D

Thanks again guys, you RULE!

actually - the new tank buster at 287$ is probably going to be cheaper then everything else posted here. it's a steal.

That's tough, some great blades there.

I'd wait for the Tank Buster. If you want the blade now or yesterday then some sort of Steel Heart. Can't go wrong with any of those though.

NMSFNO. great handle, great blade. If I have one busse I'd keep out of all of mine, the NMSFNO would be it.

I think the Tank Buster would be a good choice. It has more belly to it than the ASH-1 and is longer than the BATAC. You also have the no-choil option which makes it more useful IMO.

Personally, my jack of all trades knife for everything except chopping is a Satin Jack Tac (SJTAC). I carry one of these, literally, every single day. If you are planning to chop or baton, though, I would probably go with the NMSFNO. I have one of these, too, and it's an awesome knife.
