I was going to fix the handle on my BDC but decided to go down a slightly different road. The new handle will be stacked leather. To keep Greenwoods happy I decided to make the back half of the handle out of bocote.

ilbruche,
That is going to one fine handle. I really like the stacked leather paired with other materials you have been experimenting with. I wonder if the leather absorbs some shock, even if the outer part is impregnated with epoxy or crazy glue the part touching the tang is still flexible. I'm putting Bocote on my machete. What nice patterns in that block of Bocote.
Thanks for the nice pic.

Do an AK Bowie next time for me will ya? please

Koster has the idea to not finish his tutorials and I like your work.

How about stacked leather, middle section out of the wood, more stacked leather and a brass pommel cap to match the bolster. I've seen some knives with that kind of handle and they looked really nice.

Thought about leather/wood/leather/wood. No brass to speak of. I hate buying raw materials and prefer to acquire them in trade or by scrounging.

I really enjoy reading these project posts. Looking forward to the results...
Cheers
Eric
edit: That wood will look gorgeous with that blade.

I'd love to see you forge that tang a little hookier!! Its possible to do this without ruining the HT on the blade.

I have had the leather and red/black/white spacers glued up for a while now. I sanded it down a bit to make sure my layers were good.

I got the bocote glued on yesterday.

Dude, that Bocote is awesome...

That's nothing.

I started shaping it a bit tonight. It has the twisty psychedelic grain of insanity.

Greenwoods is gonna faint when he sees it.

Might make the handle extra long just because I'd feel bad to turn such nice wood into dust.

Looking forward to see beautiful handle,

If you're looking for a brass accent, rather than a solid bolster...might consider looking at fired brass....308/7.62x54 etc. Slice and hammer, voila! what was round is now flat. :)

Was able to do a bit of basic shaping this morning before I have to go back to work.

Look at all the eyes! This is from the left side.

How about this crazy bit of figuring. This is the bottom right.

Hopefully be able to finish it in the next couple of days. The handle might be extra long. I don't know if I can sacrifice some of the figure.
