hello bf, this is my first post! i have been lurking here since before i actually started buying anything and ive found all of the opinions to me an invaluable resource.

right now im contemplating my next purchase, i have been looking at a few blades for my collection, but have been thinking of replacing my edc (a saber ground endura 4) due to the fact that i cant get a satisfacory edge on it, i like spyderco but im open to other recomendations in the same price range ( around 70$ to 100$)

the blades i was looking at for EDC were: the spyderco manix 2, fully serrated spyderco police or a kershaw talon 2
i havent inclued any benchmades just beacuse the only model of decent quality ( that ive seen) is the griptilian models, but i just cant stand how they feel in hand!

the models i was thinking of adding to my collection were: blackhawk! be-wharned ( its just a cool looking knife, and im still a sucker for nasty looking blades) the blackhawk! crucible 2 folder ( i guess i could edc it due to the blade design but it is a little "ornamental" for it lol) the last is a little out of my price range but i am definitely going to get one just for fun, a cold steel g-10 espada XL.

so those are the choices i have thought of most, if anyone has anyreccomendations or comments in either category, well thats why im posting! thanks in advance!

I think I would recommend a set of paper wheels and a cheap grinder. if your main reason for wanting a new knife is becuase you can't get a satisfactory edge on your current one, then your money would be better spent on maintenance.

+1.

And then get whatever you want without pretending you need a reason to buy a new knife.

Edit: I would get the G-10 Espada. Everyone needs a mega folder.

You should be able to sharpen the Endura pretty well; VG-10 takes an edge without too much effort. The Sharpmaker is a great sharpener for the money; I'd recommend you get one if you don't have one.

If you like aggressive looking and tough knives, take a look at the ZT 0200 from GP knives. It will outlast any of the other knives you're considering.

its not that i cant sharpen it lol, i can get it servicably sharp but not near what im looking for. maybey its just operator error but i seem to be able to hone FFG blades to a much sharper edge with what i have (a 2 sided norton oil stone and strop). i guess im just looking at the easy way out lol. would a grinder do a much better job than what i have? (seeing as i dont have experience with one) or would a sharpmaker or other ceramic rod sharpening system do the trick?

If you can't sharpen reasonably well with a standard stone, look into a guided system perhaps. If that isn't an option, try practicing on your kitchen knives. Part of owning and having a knife is the ability to sharpen it.
If you've never really used a grinder, I'd be hesitant to recommend one. A lot can go wrong if you are unsupervised, you or someone else can be severely injured or even killed if you don't know what you are doing.

thats part of the problem i suppose, i can sharpen pretty much every knife i have to a sharper edge than i can get on my endura, even my cold steel kobun is hair shaving sharp, i dont really want to invest in a whole new system for one knife, but if it will yield better results on all of them then i would snatch it up without a problem. its kind of a conundrum to talk about beacuse i have never heard of people having trouble sharpening this particular blade, and frankly i was expecting heckling and crys to take better care of my equiptment, so thank you for not being too harsh guys lol!

FFG blades are thinner at the edge than saber grinds. So even if both knives are dull, the FFG will seem sharper when cutting. Thinner edges also take less time to sharpen. I think the dullness problem has to do with your sharpening technique. I had a stone system at first, and I wasn't able to keep the angle constant. With the Sharpmaker, you just have to keep the blade vertical (instead of having to visually set a 15 degree or whatever angle), so it's a lot easier to keep your strokes consistent. I'd recommend you get that, unless you can afford to get a more expensive system like the Edgepro. The Sharpmaker, though, is plenty to get a shaving sharp edge, and adding in the UF stones will get you a rough polished edge.

I hope your next knife is bigger than Varg's! I assume you've heard of Burzum? Your namesake didn't fare well! Although you spell it differently...;-)

of course, my knives should be sharper, only one shot in the head should do the trick lol. i think ill invest in a guided sharpening system to clean up my knives and see how it goes, thanks for the input guys!
