Next sharpening stone?

Yeah that’s what I thought but it happened at exactly the same time. Maybe a couple second dunk… previously only surface sprayed.

No heat source. The sun doesn’t even reach that far into the room. Stays around 70* 40-50 RH.
I think you just got unlucky. I keep my stones in less ideal conditions than yours and there is not even a single crack on them.

Hey FWW. I just pulled out my 3k chosera because of this thread and sharpened my s30v spiderco pocket knife. Despite all the surface crazzing it still works as good as new after dressing it.

It just really bugs me and I wonder what will happen long term.

Haven’t had that problem with any of my other choseras though… they are still great

I just ordered a Shapton Pro 5K on the big river site for 50 bucks. Can't find a 2K version there. I'll see if transition from 1.2K Ultrasharp to this stone is smooth. If not, I'll try to find a Shapton Pro 2k to fill in.

Ultimately I may also buy Chosera 3K, just to see how similar/different it is. This is called Rabbit hole right? (I thought I am gradually crawling out of the folding knife rabbit hole).

The rabbit hole runs deep, but I enjoy the sharpening rabbit hole as much or more than knives in themselves.

I did get shapton glass 500 and 1000 stones recently, but have not tried them yet. I'm looking forward to seeing how they do. Really want to put the Shaptons up against the Naniwa stones.

To be honest I almost never go to a higher grit than 1000 when sharpening any more.
