Next step for grinder upgrade

Been working with my Craftsman 2x42 for a few years and while I'm no master, working with that ripping speed has helped me work on hand control and feel. That being said, I'd like to start transitioning to something with a slower speed giving me more control. I don't have the funds to go full into a new KMG or alike so looking for recommendations on next steps.

Should I order a motor and 3 pulley system, then attach to my 2x42 until I can get the full chasis? Is that my best option with my limited funds?

I've seen guys stretch the 2x42 up to a 2x72 by cutting the frame and extending with some angle steel but not sure I want to go hacking up my only machine (even though I love to tinker).

If you love to tinker, you could get a grinder-in-a-box (GIB) or build a no-weld grinder (NWG).

It really matter on how much you want to spend and if you will be happy with something that is cobbled up. Does the speed on the 2x42 bother you? If yeah then why put any more money into it.

I have seen a vid that some one took a motor and via pulley belt pulley connect to the opposite end shaft and this controlled the other 2x42 belt. D you want variable speed?

There was a 5 part YouTube vid of the gib assembly and he said he wouldn't do it again. Consider a base kmg with pullies. Is easy to add on and it's modular.

Hawk45 I went with the GIB and just put it together over time as I could afford to do it but used my 1x42 till the new one was up and running . It works great and I have found some up grades I am going to try on it . Wild Bill

Thanks guys. I figure I'm going to be need to be getting the motor no matter which way I go as the speed of the Craftsman is just too fast for the precision I want to move up to.. I'm thinking get the motor, hook up to my 2x42, then when have the $$ get the KMG chasis, then add variable to it down the road.. or maybe go balls out and get variable from jump... but won't have the jack to get the whole setup at once.
