I am willing to link the whole convo through screen shots but here is my account of the events. I am willing to post dms but want mod permission first.
rycen
was invited to the private message conversation by me. He read it all and then advised to start a post here in the GBU.
Nfd538
tagging you per the rules.
We agreed on a trade. Nfd538 traded me a CPK light chopper that had been used/sharpened. I traded him a 2014 blade show exclusive Busse SOB with tiger hide scales, Comp finish and a swatmandu Infi (he valued his at 800 and mine at 900)
We both shipped the next day with USPS priority mail, insured for 800. The LC arrived to me in 3 days or so. I immediately see it's modified? But very poorly. The grind is aggressive, not a standard CPK edge, and the tip is very uneven (none of this was mentioned by him but he admits later to knowing about the tip and edge) I measured the knife and it's an inch shorter than the maker specs. I immediately bring this to his attention. I also messaged Nathan with CPK (Carothers performance knives)
Nfd states he knew about the tip and was gonna have it reground but didn't know the rest of the damage somehow or the knifes specs. I tell him I'm unhappy in this trade. He stated my knives hadn't been delivered yet, which was true but tracking clearly showed shipped, moved from local post office to Indianapolis, and enroute. I also assure either way it's insured for full value. (I always send pics of the shipping receipt)
Nathan (CPK) responded to my inquiry on this knife and stated in more blunt terms the LC I received is bad and he is worried about the heat treat and grind. He said it gives him heartburn! He further states from looking at this knife it will be a minimum of 200 to fix it (possibly more depending on heat treat damage) and that it will definitely not be a chopper anymore. I screen shot this convo and send these messages to Nfd. Nfd says we can trade back when my knives arrive to him. Or if I want to keep the trade he will chip in 80 dollars of the 200 (less than half the estimated repair cost and also not counting shipping charges i would incur. Also the possibly of more money in repairs)
I ask him how that makes any sense when his part of the trade is damaged. I spell it out professionally. He never responds. Several days later he states only that my knives havent shown up to him yet. I check with the post office again and they assure me the knives will be delivered and no insurance claim can be filed until 30 days. They stated the knives are likely waiting in Indianapolis, as that hub is having major shipping issues.
Fast forward and there is no comms between us but Im checking tracking daily. I get an alert that tracking has updated and The knives show delivered on Feb 2nd. I message him immediately and say I see u received the knives and they are as I described them? How do we move forward in this trade and make both of us happy? I'm still giving the benefit of doubt here and trying to work something out.
I get no response. today i log in and see he has listed one of my knives for sale in the busse forum. I have no response to my last message sent to him. I immediately message him again. Asking how is he gonna sell a knife that is involved in an incomplete trade, while also ignoring my direct messages? I post in his for sale thread as well, warning people. Again I get no response from him. Then, 10 mins later he closes the for sale thread saying sold thanks. He also clearly lies in his current for sale ad stating REK did the grind/edge on this SOB, where that is never stated in our convo on the sob) rek is mentioned in a different knife description on a mil over run meaner but absolutely not on the SOB.
I pm again and as of now still no response. He is on his account selling a knife of mine from a trade, that he knew was not complete due to him trying to pawn off a broken knife , that he most likely broke and mangled a regrind on. Again he absolutely never disclosed this info. He knows I'm unhappy with the trade and it's not complete for me. That was made clear very quickly to him.
I am unsure of what can be done at this point but it's clear to me this member is dishonest and possibly shady. So beware of this seller.
I been on bladeforums for around 15 years and never been cheated or had any issues except for a miscommunication over insurance which resulted in 1 negative feedback (even though neither party was out anything but feelings). So becareful out here.
