I haven't had a profile very long on here but have been on lurking every now and again previous. I quickly noticed that there are a lot of recommendations for knives and companies that are over $200. Was just curious if any of you have any that you really like, own or have on radar that you would consider cheap compared to the bulk of your collection. Could be looks, style, materials or what ever strikes your fancy. I just kind of catch myself looking at blade steel and price as my collection gets bigger and better, and the dollar signs keep adding. I did pull the trigger on a CRKT minimalist because I really like the look and it seems like it would be great as the beater knife for opening packages, mail and other quickie jobs around the house. I believe it was like $20. You can add an extra zero to the ones I have been purchasing recently.

Each is less than 10,000 pennies, American. Your shipping and handling may vary.

"Cheap" is relative, even on the budget end. There are some rather nice knives in the $20 range. The Tangram Santa Fe is a great example. There are also some decent knives from Kubey and Ganzo to consider. Climbing up towards $50, the 9Cr18Mov Civivi knives are fantastic. Bestech has a bunch of great knives around the $50 line and they can occasionally be found for less.

Not that I know of. I found a place out of Italy, but their website has an English portal.

Start from Fox's home site, and you should be able to find it. I think.

Really it comes down to give us a price range and we can give you a recommendation. If we want sub $200 or sub $100 or even a cap of $50 we can find something that is worth carrying and using.

"Cheap" to me just sounds like throwaways. Thats why I tried inexpensive. Just sayin. Anyway, I thought it might be nice to see some that were nice and affordable to pretty much anyone. Especially after the holidays where some may have spent their blade savings. Already looking up some of those brands I have never seen which is always interesting.

To me that means under $50

Boker has alot of traditionals under that mark. Buck 110 and 112 in traditional, LT, and slim configurations. Victorinox, Opinel, Svord, Mora. Some Kershaws and a few Spydercos fit that bill. Along the Ontario RAT 1 and 2.

How ironic! Thanks to everyone, I now have a big list of cool knives on my radar. Definately more than $200 worth. And since I am off work until the 2nd, I have time too research the ones I haven't even got to yet. I consider looking as part of the fun of the hobby. And also variety in the collection. So really, thanks for your input. And Happy New Year to everyone.

I like the nice and inexpensive offerings from Buck.

The Bantam series, Spitfire, 112 Slim Ranger... all very nice for around a $20 bill most times.

Good company, Made in the U.S. of A.... good designs that are easy to carry and maintain.

Nothing "cheap" about them in my book. Affordable? Certainly. But nice and affordable.

There are gems of nice but inexpensive, although usually the quality/goodness is correlated to the price.

There are tons of great knives from Kershaw and Boker that are super decent partly because some really savvy knife designers are working with those companies to produce well designed user knives that are dirt cheep.

Here are three :
The Kershaw Chill; the bottom knife here. the design is just fantastic.

The Kershaw Strobe (some how I don't have a photo of mine handy).

The Boker Urban Trapper; like it so much I made it into a Grail (twice). It's no slouch stock from the factory. Even comes in a drilled titanium handle for not much money (relatively speaking). All of them have titanium frames and ball bearings. I love the blade (shape, length everything about it).

the Drilled Ti is shown below with another super winner that is so cheep they pay you to carry it but the handle shape is one of the very best in the world, decent blade heat treat, enough blade length and strength to get about any job done and that is the Buck LW 110

Speaking of Buck their Pro 112 is fantastically satisfying in the hand and in use; S3OV steel to. The middle knife here in the photo below.

The Boker Gent; the two medium length knives in the middle here. Ebony handles, decent steel very thin useful blades nearly weightless in the pocket

Super knives that are inexpensive are the Spyderco UKPK and the Benchmade Mini Griptillian. I love both of these way beyond what the prices could suggest.

The Cold Steel Voyagers; oh man are they super great, heat treated aluminum frames, bronze washers, handles I would trade my soul for (shape, grippy texture, light )

And last but not least the Ontario Rat !
