I had sent Case a query as to the possibility of getting a lighter than normal pull peanut. I told then I was willing to pay for the extra labor, and explained my problem with arthritis. I got an answer from them polite and I dounerstand they are not a custom outfit. Still, I love the personal attention even a E-mail gets from their people. Nice outfit, nice company. Soooo, I am actually considering an alternative to the peanut, like maybe one of it's close cousins. Dare I say it, or do I toss off the mantle of the muckba and go with ( cough, clears throat) some other small Case with a rounded tang?

Could a former Grand High Muckba of The Cult find happiness with a baby butter bean?

Does the mini copperhead have a rounded tang?

Or do I keep on keeping on with that wonderful Northwoods stockman that I can open first thing in the morning on a rainy day?

Decisions, decisions!

[Mr. Levitan,

Thank you for your email. I am sorry, but I do not think we will be able to help you out with your request. You see, the Peanut knife has square tangs on the blade. The square tang is a feature on many of our knives that some folks seek out in a knife. The downside of the square tang is that it is sometimes a bit harder to open than a rounded tang knife. I would suggest you go with a different pattern of ours. The small Texas Toothpick is a one bladed knife, but may be a good option. A couple others are: Baby Butterbean, '087 Stockman and the '18 Stockman.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Carl maybe look into a 62087, Peanuts bigger brother 3 3/8", no 1/2 stops, new ones are Tru-sharp but can find CV ones on auction sites

Carl I have a Baby Butterbean. It's a very nice little knife and dare I say it, I like it even more than the Peanut! Another option may be to have a Peanut modified by one of the many people here that do mods/custom work.

Perhaps one of our custom makers here at BF could do a modification to a peanut to make it open easier.

Carl,

I’m looking at my Case Jr. Stockman with stag scales (tang stamp 5333). It’s a standard issue, and the pull weight is easy for my fingers.

I’ve carried the Small Stockman all my life. In my experience it’s just as useful as your Peanut is for you.

You might try a standard Jr. Stockman, or ask Case if they can lighten the pull on one. Mine has rounded tangs on all three blades.

Hey Carl

I have a Baby Butterbean with white, red, and black acrylic scales and CV blades sitting around if you would like to try it out. Let me know and I'll drop it in the mail

I had a Schrade Old Timer peanut, and I found the pull to be much lighter than that of the Case. It might be worth a shot.

Yeah, they also have the 120T that's about the same size as a Peanut with a single clip blade. I'm pretty sure they don't have half stops and are pretty easy to open.

Man, you guys are what makes this forums so great, and a place that restores my faith in the human race daily. In just minutes after my post I have offers of knives and propositions to modify knives. The generosity on this forums makes me believe that there is a strain of decency in the human race, no matter what I see on the news or out and about in my travels in the world. I could adopt you all as brothers or grandsons without a second thought. Definitely family.

Thank you all for your generous offers, and I'm going to stir it all about while I mull things over. After all, I do have a nice very easy to open Northwoods in my pocket, and the resolza is on standby for light weight carry for dress occasions. :D

I have a Mike Alsdorf Peanut pattern single blade that is pretty easy to open. Mike rounds the initial tang off a bit to make it super easy to open to the half stop, it is still a 4 to full open. Shame more makers didn't accommodate us afflicted with "rheumatism" :)

Carl is moving away from the Peanut?

Next you're going to tell me there's no Santa Claus.

I guess one strong contender I am giving consideration to is, the mini copperhead. Especially with a wharnie. There's a certain member here, (Ahem, he knows who he is!) that has shown his amber bone wharnie mini many times, and I have to confess, if I had to pick another small pocket knife as a precious, and stay close to the peanut family of pint size pocket jewels, that one would do.

So, question for the mini copperhead owners: do they have half stops or rounded tang?

I imagine the people at Case are starstruck the Muckba himself has made contact with them, the one responsible for driving their sales of Peanuts, their plan is probably to get Carl onto a different pattern to drive sales there instead.

Jackknife, you should try a mini copperhead if you haven't already. If you'd like to try one out, PM me your address and I'll send you one.

Something like this one perhaps:

Carl, this is a Case 62109X Mini-Copperhead; it features rounded tangs and soft pulls (about a 3 on the main and a 4 on the pen). It opens softly but snaps nicely - the only issue you could have is there is nothing to open the blade with except the nail knick - if you can handle nail knick opening you will be fine. This is my suit pocket knife for dressy occasions - good knife for me, but I don't have arthritis. OH

resistance is futile.

Carl, I have kept an eye out. I found an older Kabar peanut with some lighter pulls, but the nail nick on the main blade was too hard to open. Looked like someone sharpened it, and now, the pen blade sits higher almost than the main blade.

The Order of the Peanut, a secret faction amongst the Cult of the Peanut, is sworn to uphold the oath;

"The smaller the potato, the tougher to peel."

Well, not literally with a peanut, but you get my drift... :foot:

I've had to move away from most all slip joints since my thumb injury a few years back.
I have a Peanut from the early 2000's with a light pull, but the one I got last year had a heavy pull. Not sure if the dates have anything to do with it though.

I ordered several small slip joints last year just to see if I could get lucky and get a couple with a light pull.
I got two that I was able to keep.
One was a Schrade 120T that has a very soft pull, and the other was a Case Pen knife with a soft pull.

I may have got lucky with the Pen knife, but I think all of the 120T's have a soft pull.

I've had two models(not a peanut)made with a soft pull. They open with a soft pull, but snap shut very well. The factory knives with a soft pull won't snap shut like that.
I never thought about having a factory knife modified for a lighter pull. I may need to check into that since it would be a less expensive option than a full custom.
