Nice answer from Case.

Go ahead and give one a try!

I had sent Case a query as to the possibility of getting a lighter than normal pull peanut. I told then I was willing to pay for the extra labor, and explained my problem with arthritis. I got an answer from them polite and I dounerstand they are not a custom outfit. Still, I love the personal attention even a E-mail gets from their people. Nice outfit, nice company. Soooo, I am actually considering an alternative to the peanut, like maybe one of it's close cousins. Dare I say it, or do I toss off the mantle of the muckba and go with ( cough, clears throat) some other small Case with a rounded tang?

Could a former Grand High Muckba of The Cult find happiness with a baby butter bean?

Does the mini copperhead have a rounded tang?

Or do I keep on keeping on with that wonderful Northwoods stockman that I can open first thing in the morning on a rainy day?

Decisions, decisions!

Answer from Case:
[Mr. Levitan,

Thank you for your email. I am sorry, but I do not think we will be able to help you out with your request. You see, the Peanut knife has square tangs on the blade. The square tang is a feature on many of our knives that some folks seek out in a knife. The downside of the square tang is that it is sometimes a bit harder to open than a rounded tang knife. I would suggest you go with a different pattern of ours. The small Texas Toothpick is a one bladed knife, but may be a good option. A couple others are: Baby Butterbean, '087 Stockman and the '18 Stockman.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Good day,

Jackknife,

Have you tried case's small gunstock pattern? I have a candy strip one from the early 2000s similar in size to the peanut with very soft pulls on both blades. I'm not sure if it's in their current production but it's a great looking knife.

My case select peanut is definitely easier to open than a standard case peanut, I'm not sure if that is across the board or just mine though.

I know I'll get excommunicated from the lodge but based on the three small texas toothpicks I have owned, they are indeed easier to open than our vaunted peanut, and I actually prefer its scapel like california clip. You can even find them with a pen secondary.

IMO, the Canoe pattern is really underrated. A baby butter bean would be pretty sweet. You are welcome to try any pattern out there IMO. Maybe even GEC will sell you one of their little knives with a lightened pull.

All that being said, you are a peanut man. I bet someone on this forum has the knowledge to mod a peanut just right for you..... Get one in CV, have it modded.... and have some ebony covers slapped on it while you are at it! Ebony, patina, peanut..... mmmmm.

A CV ebony peanut? Sign me up please!

I think I like my Butterbean about as well as my Peanuts. Not sure it's really any easier to open tho. I do have a sweet little Schrade 72OT with a little easier pull on the blades that I would love to give you if your interested. Sounds like you've already had some offers, and that surprises me not at all, but it's yours if you want it.
I guess I sort of hope that you will take up a small knife again. Just seems right and as it should be. That sweet stockman in one pocket and a little 'un in the other.

Jim

Yeah, they also have the 120T that's about the same size as a Peanut with a single clip blade. I'm pretty sure they don't have half stops and are pretty easy to open.

The 12OT is a great, very-easy-to-open knife. All you lose from a Peanut is the pen blade.

I wonder if you could grind a little EO relief in a baby Butterbean?

I have a GEC white owl that's a very easy pull, maybe around a 3. I bet the conductor would be similar, maybe even pinchable, but can't say for certain.

I'm sorry if this is out of place or if its been resolved already, as I didn't read all of every post, but I'm sending you a pm.

Edit: pm sent

Shows decency and politeness to answer the e-mail, not all knife companies are that good in my experience. CASE dealt with me (an overseas customer) very well indeed I must say.

Carl, I recently got a Mini-Copperhead and I'm delighted with it. Really thick Rootbeer Bone scales offering a good grip, no build issues at all, no half-stops so a very smooth easy to open compact knife and a looker too!

You found a new cult based on that and I'm a follower! Really nice knife, really nice single-spring knife but skimpy/skinny it is not.

thanks, Will

Will, look at me! Do I have your attention? Do you think the world is ready for another cult? The cult of the mini copperhead?

It might not be pretty!

Carl, former Grand High Muckba of one cult, maybe not ready for another.:D

Carl, greatness may be about to be thrust on you...multi-blade knives, multi-cultural :D:D Traditionals: an Old School, a Broad School as always!

Look into that Mini-Copperhead, rewarding and tidy knife with nothing to rip up the pockets either.

Nice!, Will. I like it. I have four now, maybe that's enough for admission to a new cult should one become active.

Count me in. I still only have one but she's a beauty.

Will, I'm glad you included the napkin to soak up the drool on that pic.

My favorite Case pattern is the medium jackknife. Nice size (3 & 3/8ths) between the Peanut & Texas Jack. No half-stops, a little easier to open than a Peanut, and a little more handle to grab on to. Just wish Case offered it in CV steel.

Thanks gents, I've been very pleased with the Mini-Copperhead. I've got one from RR with Clip main that's not bad either.

This.

My SS medium jack is marked "Texas Jack" on the box. Smooth black delrin panels, non-polished "as ground" blades. Nice little knife that is super easy to open. Think of it as a little bit bigger peanut. 'Bout as small as I can handle these days with my old fingers.
