Nice Haul

Nice fish! We do a little fishing around Telogia about twice a year...nothing like those redbellies fried up with some "dough-boys" and a cold beer! those willow/buttercats are quite tasty as well!

 Telogia is only about 25 miles straight shot from where we are at. But, you have to go up to HWY 20 to get across the river, so it takes about an hour or so to drive it. I've got some friends in Bristol that hunt just south of there. They get some big hogs in that area! We catch a lot of those bull redbellies on fly rods in the late spring. Little rascals pull like crazy, and are good eating.

I fished the Dead Lakes 30 years ago for Bass. Didnt catch any lunkers but had a blast with two and three pounders.

It's changed a bit, they took out the dam in back in 1988. Now the water level fluctuated constantly. There is also a constant current. It will get as high or higher than when the dam was in, then get so low there is just a channel in some places, all in a matter of weeks. It's done a lot of good. Before they took it out there were just over 30 species of fish, now there are over 60. More food for all sorts of stuff. Way more crawfish, snails and mussels. There are also several species of birds making a big return in the area. There are so many alligators now that they have opened it up to hunting, with permit of course. I see it mentioned in articles about the benefits of dam removal and habitat reconstruction. It's nice to be able to get past where the dam was and out to the other river, gives you access to over 600,000 acres of public land for hunting, camping and fishing.
