There is a knife maker who goes by the name "Charlieridge", sells the occasional knife over in the fixed blades area. He recently made a batch of bare blades, forged out of 5160 bar stock. I bought one, and put a handle on it.

His blades are in the primitive style, which I happen to like. Those in this batch were rough, lots of hammer marks and scale, though he had put a convex edge on them. He left the tangs soft so you can drill holes for pins if you want.

Here is mine -

The blade length from the end of the scales to tip is 5 3/8", OAL is 9 1/2". The handle is made from pressed, dyed leather and the pins are copper tubing.

The temper on this knife seems true. I haven't yet done anything with the knife yet, still need to make a sheath.

I bought this blank from Charlieridge for $35.00 shipped. If you are interested in putting your own handle on a blade in the primitive style, he may be your man.

It does have that rough blacksmith look to it, but it appears to be a useful knife. I like it. :D

Lots of folks look down on that rough look, but I personally lik eit and find that it doesn't effect the knife's cutting ability so long as the edge bevel is nice and clean.
