Nice Ulster

Greg, per my discussions with A.G. via email, what he's doing is enlisting makers to produce his own take or designs based upon traditional patterns.

However, I agree with you that seeing one of these old beauties in upscale production would be awesome.

Great pattern, deserving of its own thread. Some nice examples showing up also!!
Here's a pair from that great old company, Empire, of Winsted, CT.
It's particularly hard to find one with the clip blade. These knives are both a beefy 3 3/4" long. The clip is stamped with a pattern number, 447 1/2. I think that makes the spear pattern# 447.

Great ones Charlie!! I got a feeling I'm gonna be up to my armpits in these guys.

Hi Kodiak, Great vintage Ulster Dogleg Jack!. Glad to see you back too.

lambertiana, I love the HSB catalogue page and the knife.

I am with Elliot and Greg as well with regard to the angle of sharpening. I freehand on an old Washita or hard Arkansas stone with a drop or two of mineral oil. Speaking of which, you may want to drop the knife into a mineral oil bath to rejuvenate the scales. They are likely a little dry after 65+ years and would benefit greatly from such TLC since you are edc'n her now. :)

Here is a favorite in my edc rotation..

Hey guys! Thanks for all the comments. Sunnyd: man oh man, you were right! I put oil on the wood scales and they drank like men who went through the desert on horses without names. I really like this Dogleg pattern. I may have to look for others. I like the Case/Bose one but it's a bit out of my price range. Does anyone have other suggestions? It would be a user, so I would like decent steel. Thanks!
