I've really enjoyed my Cold Steel Mini-Tuff Lite, but I'd like a higher end equivalent. I have a Spyderco Equilibrium that's on its way to for a slight blade customizing. While I like the Equilibrium's frame lock and VG-10 blade, the slick stainless steel handles disappoint me. What else is out there that I'm missing in the sub $200 price range?

Yea man I don't like slick stainless handles either. The Spyderco Kiwi 4 won't disappoint. G10, VG10, and an Awesome choke up for greater control. It will be a welcome change.

Case 11031SH if you can find one on the used market.
Single blade, Sheepsfoot, walnut covers, carbon steel blade.
About 3 5/8 inches closed; very pocket friendly.

I have the Spydie Kiwi 4. Nice small slim knife.

I got this one in part because I was a bit dissatisfied with the Cold Steel Tuff Lite. It could just be made better and I wouldn't mind a higher price tag on it.

Thanks for the recommendations so far. The Kiwi looks interesting, and has prompted me to look at the Bradley Air. My concerns with the little Bradley are that I'm worried about corrosion on the M4 blade, and I'm worried that the glass fiber scales will be slick. I may end up just disassembling the Equilibrium and sending the scales / frame out for bead blasting.

To more precisely define what I'm looking for I do want something smaller and more pocketable. A frame or liner lock for easier one handed closing is also preferable. This all makes me think that customizing the Equilibrium may be the best route, but if you folks have other suggestions I'm open of course.

I personally think closing a lockback (like the kiwi) one handed is every bit as easy as any other knife.. Especially if there is a choil (like on the kiwi) to keep your pointer finger well away from the blade. I have never been cut once and I do it all the time.

I concur. I've carried lockbacks for decades and have never cut myself closing one despite almost always doing it one-handed.

+1 on the Kiwi 4, although I do wish they'd do one in carbon fiber. It would be a very elegant looking knife.

My only complaint with the Kiwi 4 is that Spyderco could have used a higher grade steel at it's price point. The price seems a tad high with VG-10 steel. But it really is a nice knife and I like to use it. The G-10 scales are very grippy.
