marthinus that looks great, what a neat idea. as far as the chip in the blade I've never had that happen but anything can

Thanks. Here is a darker wood I used Just before it was taken. Last two photos of my Seb I took.

Would you please describe your process of creating this excellent add-on, from start to finish. I'm not a skilled
woodcrafter but maybe I could do this for my first Sebenza when it arrives (hopefully before the end of the month).
Many thanks, if you are able to take the time to explain the DIY to this new Bladeforums member!
-Best Regards, R.

Will do, just give me some time for pics etc.

Hi Marthinus,
Happy to report no chipping yet on my Lg. Sebenza (SS D.T. Ladder Dam.) and it's a beauty to look at and use. I carry it in a pocket w/o keys or other metal and use the Sharpmaker with a light touch in re: earlier comments in this thread.
I'd still like to learn about how you made and installed the wood add-on. Please know this is intended as a respectful second request, not a nag. If you still haven't had time I sure understand!
Sincerely,
Reston

The only time I've experienced chipping with my plain Small 21 (S35VN) was during the first few months after I had (going on a year now). It was also with an edge put on by me, not the factory edge. A few more sharpenings down the road now and I have yet to experience another chip, and I strip copper wire with it.

Perhaps some this lends some credence to the "brittle edge" theory?

Wow, I have completely forgotten about this, you could nag away, I said I will do it and I will this time. Working night shift now, but I will do a write up of the process and post it for you. I did some G10 scales and glow in the dark as well for my Insingo a while back.

I wanted to ask, could I do a video for you? With another knife, but it would be much easier for me to describe what to do and the principles are the same. It will save me a lot of time.

I'm in for a vid:thumbup::)

I don't think it's fair to even consider comparing this knife to a fixed blade like a Busse. Isn't that Busse thicker? The grinds on them are much different.
I also have to agree with most people here, it varies much on how you sharpen it.
The people I see selling those sharpeners tell you how to sharpen it one way, but a lot of different knife makers use different grinds for different knives to optimize the edge and the intended use of the knife. If you change that edge to something different, it may weaker/damage the steel for the intended use.

Marthinus- Not sure if you did but, please consider including your vid(s) in Maintenance,Tinkering and Embellishment I think it would be appreciated there as well, also as a stand alone thread it will be searchable in the future.
Nice job.

The edge on my small Insingo took a ding because a penny ended up wedged in the back from my pocket carry. Easy to sharpen out but still something to watch out for.

Marthinus,
Many thanks for your help! Actually, the videos are even better than pix would be.
Best,
Reston

Thanks for the how to video. I used a scrap piece of cherry to make a filler piece for my sebenza. It was easy to do once I saw how you did it.
