Nick Wheeler W2 + Ironwood fighter

Nick,

Love the knife! The sheath is stunning.

The video on the other hand, my wife came over to see if I was watching pornography from 1975. Where does one find music like that?

Greg

HaHa, thanks guys. :)

I was hoping Paul would post here before I explained the sheath. I sat down with a pencil/paper and sketched up what I thought would look nice and what I wanted to try to make... I wanted this to be a big step forward with my leather work. So I got all the pieces cut, and the face tooled/dyed... and right at that point, the mail lady delivered a sheath that Paul made for a customer of mine.

I looked at it and realized just how many details I sketched out for my sheath, were in Paul's... I did NOT set out to copy Paul, but it became apparent that his work had really burned into my mind.

One thing in particular that really got me, was this idea I had for random texture. I didn't think I'd ever seen it before, so I set out to make a stamp for it. I made about 12 stamps before I liked what I got. Then I looked at some photos in my portfolio of Paul's sheaths, and wouldn't 'ya know it? Random texture on some of the chevrons!!! Then I did a quick online search, and found out you can buy a stamp like what I made, for about $10.

So.... I ended up with a sheath that looks like I was trying to copy Paul... but the good part about that is he is my favorite sheathmaker. And I have a l-----o-----n-----g way to go. The other big plus, is that I really enjoyed making this sheath.

Here are some of the stamps I made... the 2nd and 3rd shots are the ones I actually used. ;) :)

Thanks again for the kind words folks, it is very much appreciated!!! :)

*** as for music.... LOL- I just click on whatever seems like it won't be universally offensive AND is offered free on youtube! ;) :)

As Mick Dundee might have said...

"Now THAT IS a knife!"

Sickeningly great, as usual.

Wow! Now that's a hamon! Water or oil on the quench? I'm gonna have to try it...great job.
Now what's it gonna take to get you to the Arkansas show?
Ben

Great job Nick !

I really like the "new" little touches you added, and that blade shape is very nice

The hamon is ........sublime :D

Nick not much to add that hasn't been said... all I can do is gawk and appreciate the high level of your artistry!

Fantastic Nick. One of my favourites of yours yet. Nice work on the sheath. It's hard not to copy Paul.. His work is iconic and just "right".

Really interesting hamon. I'm still trying to figure out how you did it.

Complete aside: There are about five 'orange' members watching this thread as I am.

That tells you something. :)

Photos: Exceptional. Video: Good, but too long.

Knife & Sheath: EYEPOPPING.

I'm gonna put out the guess that that crazy hamon is the result of a near net forging.

Extraordinary Bowie and sheath! The SS spacer even though subtitle, takes it over the top in my opinion.

I'm in awe, Nick. That knife right there is pure poetry. As for the sheath, I would have bet money that it was Paul's work. Truly impressive work all the way around:thumbup:

Paul has definitely set the standard that any one serious in there sheath work can surely appreciate.

So Nick it is kinda hard when someone as talented as you strives for there best and it looks similar to a Long. Because a Long is the best

Beautiful work Nick you should be proud

I must agree with everyone, this is absolutely fantastic, Nick.
What a killer knife/sheath package.
Mesmerizing hamon.
Congrats !

Doug

Gorgeous piece on all counts. I'd love to own something like that, and, God willing, I will someday. Thanks for sharing!
