nickel silver

Anybody know the composition of this stuff?
18% nickel and the rest???? I just found out that it aint silver.....
(I suppose everybody knew this but me...LOL)

Alloy C752- 18% nickel silver:
Ni 16.5-19.5
Cu 63.5-66.5
Fe .25 max
Mn .50 max
Pb .05 max
Zn remainder (17% approx)

Btw, I thought it had silver for the longest time too

For one of my electives when i was earning my BA I took a metal arts class and we used nickel silver instead of real silver. The prof teaching it thought it was a lot better stuff than actual silver. The name is a little misleading though!

Ok,now that we know what it is, does anybody know of any place other than the knife supply places that carry it? It's gotta be cheaper from a metal supply place than paying by the foot

good "German silver" is good stuff; bad "German silver" IS white brass, that is, it contains no nickle, rather is mostly zinc and a little copper. Very weak and inferior to real "German silver." i understand thnat some suppliers sell white brass as german silver. Caveat emptor.
