I have been building up my collection of 112s for awhile now but other Bucks are looking good!!!! Can yall share a little info on the Night Hawk, a 650. I went to Bucks web site and BCCI but not much there....When did they come out,and when were they droped ? List was 80.00 whats going on now ,is there much demand now for them?? Variations/special projects???? Is the black coating verry durable ?? If you have one how do you like it??? I need a truck Buck! thanks...

Clint-
I am pretty sure the 650 is alive and well. Just me, but I prefer the older and original bead-blasted 650 with the black handle but the newer 650 black oxide/green handle is just as favorable for a good truck Buck. Street value is closer to the $50 + or - delivered. As far as any special versions...??? Maybe Messy might be the guy with that info? I know he has the 655 (shorter and serrated).
And BTW- I like 'em!!! Have you paid any attention to the 651 Pig Sticker/ Intruder? I kinda EDC one of them these days! "This is a knawf" ;)

Yeah, the Nighthawks are alive and well. I only have a 655 which is the short, serrated Nighthawk. Wally World has them for $40.

In addition to what GD said, there are some non-serrated 651's floating around. I'm not sure exactly when they came out, maybe 1998?

Good, heavy use knives. Handles are very comfortable. Blades are perhaps a little too thick to be good slicers.

I like the nighthawk!
I dont recall exactly when they came out... 1994 I believe. They made a first production run that was numbered that came with a wooden base and held the knife with .30 carbine brass I believe????
First ones were black/black. Then I believe black/bead blasted.
Then black with OD handle. They have make short serrated nighthawks also (655), also unserrated.
Also a black handled 653 Black Tanto was made.
Try one out!

I have one of the Nighthawks with the black and black and then I got one later which still has the black blade but now has the green and black handle.

They are still in the catalog under the Tactical section.

I really like mine and it is my primary hunting knife at the moment.

Does anyone have the story about the Nighthawk being developed by Buck for the US military? Where other knives from other makers were entered for consideration? And what knife was selected since it wasn't a Nighthawk?

When the Nighthawk first came out, I remember reading some ad copy about it.

I have two Nighthawks, one black handled, one green handled. I noticed on the one with the black handle that it is not marked Buck on the blade or the handle. The one with the green handle is mark Buck and the model # on the blade.

Were the black handle Nighthawks not Marked?

gd526, you actually edc a pig sticker....amazing....i have one and it is bigger than my ka-bar. you must live in a very rural area. a pig sticker edc in the city would not sit too well with the boys in blue.

Oh yea, whats a "knawf"???

I used to live in a very rural area and could do as I responsibly pleased but for the last two years am a city dweller :( I know several of the thin blue line here in town btw :) About a month ago there was three homicides and and another attempt two blocks from where I park and four from the front door. Working second shift requires a walk after the lights are out and since Illinois is a non-carry state...well....the 651 is of some comfort tucked in the waistband and under the coat.
Secondly; since the 651 Pig Sticker/Intruder was originally ordered and produced for an Austrailian firm I thought it appropriate to use a Crocodile Dundee expression, "Thats naut a knawf...THIS is a knawf"!
I tend to be an enigma so when in doubt, ask away :p

Dave

Well dave, now that I have a little backbround on the pig sticker edc I agree, "THIS IS A KNAWF".

P.S. My other favorite part of Crocodile was when he throws his KNAWF and parts the guy's hair....great! ;)

Hey Topol...not to get into the "law" thing...that is another forum. But regarding fixed Bucks...
I live in a very urban area in Calif. Calif knife law is surpisingly "lenient"...as long as it is not concealed and hanging freely (they don't like sheaths bottom strapped to your leg or horizontal carry sheath fixed blades. YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY. LOCAL CITY LAW MAY (WILL) VARY...GREATLY.

EDC a 187 Intrepid, 124, or a Kalinga pretty more often than not. After five years here, they know me farily well (guilty by association? LOL or just a bit fast on the gas sometimes?) and it's a none issue. I have a ton of sincere respect for local Five-0 and I think they appreciate that.
Having said that, I try to stay up to date on local ordinances if I go to other cities. If I am not certain, it's folder time. Besides, lately I find I am more out of the John Wayne'ing as I have some strong folders. Just usually when I ride in case I need a utility tool to cut the bead of my tire ;)

Now...here is why I really posted: :)
Hey, how much do those 651 knives cost IRL (not list)?
Where can I get a choice, or both a serrated or non-serrated.

A few years ago 334 gave me a 119 ...But when I got hooked on 112s I traded it back to him when I got ALLMOST ALL of his 112s [He was helping a brother out] Im bottom feeding on *bay now for a "Truck Buck" and after looking I think the Nighthawk is the one...Ill try for a all black one alltho I havent seen one for sale yet...

As far as I know, Goose, the 651 Pig Sticker is only offered in the plain jane which is fine by me!
I called the Buck business line and got, instead of Ena who answers normally, Pete Mason who runs the Custom Shoppe! Pete left my info for Ena, who called me back for the pertinents and $85 / three days later I had my Intruder/ Pig Sticker 651!
Easy enough? But I thought you had that particular knawf?????????????????

Buckaholic, I am not aware that the 651 was available in a serrated version. I ordered mine about a month ago directly from Ena and the price was $75 + postage. Since this apparently will not be an "in store item" (at least in the U.S.) better get while the gettin" is good.

BTW, what's an IRL?

Thanks GD526 and Topol for clearing me up on the serrations of the 651...that they are not there. I prefer that.
And thanks also for the pricing Topol.
All The Best...

BTW, "IRL" = In Real Life ;)

Goose...They will ship you two for the same shipping cost........:D

Sounds like the price jumped $10 since the first ones were ordered.

Yeah, Goose...the sheath does have a leg tie strap..

LOL about the tie strap.
Interesting how this pic is "related" to this thread...I bought the sheath pictured for my NightHawk which is now in the good hands of some guy that Will Hunt 4 Food.

Anyway, the tie strap on this sheath is still intact and has never been unwound. Wore the same knife/sheath combo today as pictured from moons ago...but different pants ;)

If I got the 651 I will have to order the longer Spec-Ops sheath. This can be an expensive hobby.

It was my understanding that the Nighthawk was an Entry for the Navy Seals knife some time ago. SOG won the contract, but who knows if a Navy Seal ever actually was issued or used one.
