Had a nice simple night out with a friend from school. We went down to the bank of the Farmington River a little less than two miles from my house and about 3/4 of a mile from his house. We stopped and watched the highschool softball game on the way over.
We got down to the river and Dave immediatly broke out his fishing pole and started working on dinner. I started gathering firewood.
He caught a barely legal rainbow trout and I cleaned it out (thanks Tony!
) and he went back to work fishing.
After a while of no luck, we started the fire and cooked up a couple of hotdogs while we waited for a good bed of coals to form.
Once the coals were well established, we tossed the fish right onto them and cooked it for a while until the meat flaked off the bone...then we ate it. Delicious!!
Somewhere in there we set up camp. I slept in my typical setup; poncho for overhead cover, ground cloth, sleeping pad and 30 degree (F) bag. Dave used a hammock with a clear plastic sheet for overhead cover, and a 40 degree bag.
In the photo you can see a silver bag next to my water bottle...That's my water bag. It holds about 4 liters of water and was free! I got it out of a Dunkin' Donuts Box O' Joe. Works great, I've used it on a dayhike and last night so far, and it has held up great.
I slept great all night, even though the hood of my sleeping bag got soaked from dew (I was sticking out from under my poncho). Dave's feet were cold, and the constant wind kept him from really getting comfy in the hammock.
Sunset:
We went to bed early, I think I was asleep before 9:15. We got up around sunrise and had a breakfast fire to warm up, then broke camp and headed home.
I'm gonna go shower and get ready for a dayhike with some other friends today...the weather is supposed to be awesome.:thumbup:
