Night Time Confidence ?

At night, I don't usually call it hiking. For me it's usually tracking or stalking just for good mental and physical exercise. It's been awhile since I've done this though, thanks for bringing it up. I always have a knife on me, and will especially in these circumstances.

Peoples' night vision is suprisingly good. Doesn't take much to lose it though - full moon, flashlight, farm lights - then it takes something like 45 minutes to get it back again.

I found that an LED converted mag-lite with a red filter makes a great ambient map light because of just how little the output is. After you use one in the woods, at night, you really realize how powerful those high performance flashlights really are. BTDT. I would say 45 minutes is an accurate assessment. The first 10-15 it will be like your almost blind. BTDT.

My sister and brother in laws two best friends were both shot(in their sleep) while camping in california. Completely random act of violence. Ever since then, I've had this idea that you can never be overly cautious. I also think everyone should have the right to carry a side arm and protect themselves or their family.
