Just curious to know if any of you keep any gear close at hand during the night? I'm talking about your night stand, on your person or under the pillow. Myself, on top of my bedside table is a Surefire E2 flashlight and a black Piranha P1 auto. What's your kit?

I lived in SF for many years and now in Japan for a while, so Im always thinking about the minor chance of an earthquake, I was in a pretty good one in SF, So...without starting a big hoop dee do about the value of impact weapons(I hope) I have one of those really long mag light flashlights, loaded with fresh Ds, You can buy the long ones here in Japan, luckily because I left my old one behind. I have it for illumination and just in case there is looting or things got crazy I like it as an impact weapon. I always carry a pen pepper spray on me, and my little knife, They are next to my wallet and watch. And I also keep a larger bottle of spray under the table in case of an earth quake for the above reasons. In the corner next to my bed is my bug out bag which also doubles as my hiking/camping day bag and has fresh supplies, so if I have to I can get by for three days on just what is inside it.

I also keep an E2 by the bed, next to the S&W Model 65 .357, loaded with .38 Special +P's so the wife can handle it if need be. One step away inside the closet door is a Benelli M1 Super 90. In the unlikely event that I need a pry bar a busse Battle Mistress sits on the closet shelf. At the foot of my bed I keep a pair of jeans with a belt in them and my wallet, a Swamp Rat Rat Trap and truck keys in the pockets, and a pair or shoes. Don't want to be running around in the middle of the night in an emergency trying to gather things up.

I keep a bazooka suspended above my bed from a chain, so all I have to do is sit up straight.
In addition, I jammed a sword through the wall, so that I don't need a sheath for it—just have to grab the handle and pull.
Next, I mounted a Gatling gun on the footboard of my bed, for use when I run out of rockets.

Is this overkill? Maybe. But does it keep me safe from all the mice, bats, and/or crickets? Heck yes.

I string concertina wire in all the doorways of the house at night. I also paint it to match the walls so it is even harder to see. Thank goodness we don't have any kids and the dogs can go through it or else I'd hate to see the clean up every morning. Oh, yes and there is the 870 tactical with oo buck and then there are the rabid squirrels that patrol outside in case of intruders and they get past the moat that I dug outside. I leave the knives scattered around the house to confuse anyone who comes in so they'll be oggling my awesome knives and hit the concertina wire, then the dogs, then the squirrels if there are any left, usually it never gets to the shotgun. On really scary nights I turn the dogs out and hook up the cattle fence electrifier to the concertina wire. Oh, and i have a flashlight :D

i usually keep my hk usp 45 compact , two spare mags and my surefire g2 close by in case someone desides to misbehave and mess with my truck or break in . 870 is in the corner .

I keep a Colt 1911 .38 Super and a Para Ord .45 with Hornady Hollowpoints and two clips each close by... I am no good with flashlights though, besides I can see just fine in the dark depths of my room/house.

Oh yea and I keep a cactus on the other side of my bed just in case they get to close and try to rape me I can slam it in their face. lol...joking its just for decor...

I keep a three LED headlamp on my bedpost for reading after my soon-to-be-ex-fiancee (we're getting married Saturday) has gone to sleep. I keep a five-D-Cell Maglite by the bed, and a 1-litre Nalgene with drinking tube lid, full of water, in case I get thirsty.

First line of defence is the dog, who sleeps at the foot of the bed.

I guess I'm lazier than most of you. I have swivel-mounted Uzis with infrared and motion sensors throughout my house. I've also installed silencers on all of them so they don't wake me up.

i keep a 6d cell maglite and a gerber guardian on my bedside table
i also have a kukri in my sock drawer

:D :D :D :D Very good. I knew someone would come through with a good s/a remark.

Me... my Glock is in a small safe under the bed, and my 110 lb German Shepard "Koda". Oh.... I also have a slightly fat chocolate lab "K.C." but he would probably have a beer waiting for whomever decided to break in. :D

This seems to be mostly about gear other than knives, so let's move over to Gadgets & Gear.

Instead of the bazooka/gatling/concertina approach I just keep plenty of ammo around and shoot randomly around the house throughout the night- down the hall, into the stairway to the basement and out the back door. I'm thinking of getting ahold of some fragmentation grenades to lob out the bedroom window at various times but they're hard to come by on the civilian market.

Hi All-

A couple of things are kept around to make for a comfortable night of sleep so I don't have to go wandering around looking for them. These are kept on the nightstand or on the floor near my bed:
  • fresh bottle of cold water in case I awaken thirsty
  • box of tissues and roll of hard candies
  • alarm clock set to radio and alarm to ensure I'm awake for work
  • one of my .40 S&W semi-automatics in a Wilderness Safepacker
  • SureFire M2 Centurion flashlight
  • extra lithium batteries
That's about it. I sleep like a baby virtually every night!

I keep a flashlight at the head of the bed, and in one of the drawers I keep a plethora of flashlights, a loaded gun. Our bed is this big oak thing, and we both have tall cabinets with drawers in them. So, I have my guns and some knives in their. (I also keep some on the desk.) But, I DO keep a loaded handgun ready to go, in a drawer.

I tend to lose things if I don't put them in the same place every night. So I keep the stuff I'm gonna need when I wake up next to the bed (car keys, wallet, knives, and cell phone which doubles as my alarm clock).

On the floor next to my bed is a three D cell Maglite. I've got a 2AA Mag in the living room and a Surefire G2 on the mantle by the front door just incase the power goes out. I also keep an old canteen by the bed because I always wake up thirsty.
