Yeah Ken. It will work on the D50. I shoot with a D70. Essentially the same cameras, very similar for sure. The DX has no aperture ring, the D has an aperture ring. If the D50 does not allow for a manual mode, you would simply leave the lens aperture locked so that the camera controls it.

Should not be a problem.

okay....let's see if I get this right...the D with the aperature ring allows you to work manually to let more light in? the D50 is capable of manual mode. Just not certain what you are saying about the aperature ring I guess. Two lenses were specifically made for the D50 the the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm and AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm. I was trying to get a little more zoom possibility with the one like yours. Am I on the right track?

The "D" allows operation of the aperture ring. The "DX" puts it all and only on the camera. A DX requires a camera with auto aperature control, the D allows you to manage the aperature ring manually.

My understanding is that this will work on the D50, which was made after the D70.

Thanks,
Think I will wait until I get the camera(buying it from a guy and hasn't arrived yet) and look things over.
