I spotted a cool modified Nimravus. People who have stripped the coating off theirs will drop their jaws when they see this one! It's at the bottom of Fred Perrin's review of the Nimravus and Nimravus Cub, as seen here:

And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold the great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads...And His tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth; and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

I wish I had to time (or even the skill) to make such major modifications to my nimravus. Oh well, I guess I have to settle for just scotchbriting the BT2 coating off.

Sweet page now that I saw that I am now open to buying a cub.

Also why would you want to scotch brite the B2 coat off it rules??

Hmm, great pics and review. Don't know if PETA would approve of the "suggestive nature" toward the cat though! LOL!!

MIKEY77...

Like Leo said, I too never have cared much for coated blades (never really had a use for them - except for a few months when I used to work by the seaside). That and my ATS-34 nimravus' bt2 coating is getting really scuffed up and kind of ugly.

Fred's mods were actually pretty easy and straightfoprward with the exception of making the finger notch so much more exaggerated. In order to do that without ruining the heat treat, he would've had to keep the blade very cool. I wonder how he did it, unless he is tenacious enough to SLOWLY grind it down! What a guy!

Mickey, I was neutral on the coating until I found out how easy it was to scratch up. I drilled a hole in my Benchmade sheath to put another screw through to tighten the fit. I guess a piece of concealex was left in the sheath so that one draw in and out left a nasty 3 inch long scratch in my new knife. I was bummed. Then I got Newt Livesays tight fitting sheath for it and found that it removed the finish faster than a 3M pad

. I couldn't take enough Zantac at that point to relieve my stressed stomach. After I saw the 4ths pic, I knew what I had to do. I couldn't believe how nice this knife looked after removing the coating, I was even happier than I was when the knife was new. Best of all, even with use and abuse the knife looks like new every day and no more marks from Newt's excellent sheath! As an added bonus I have had no problems with corrosion and mine is the M2 version. Now if I just knew how to shape the scales like Mr Perrins......
