I never paid much attention to it till they came out with Mario Cart and that game looks like it would be a blast to play!!!
What I would like to know is, those of you who have bought the Nintendo Wii and used it for a while, were you happy with it and do you still have it?
Thanks for your input!!!

It rocks. All I play is the free game that comes with it, though. My dang wife keeps kicking my butt at the boxing. :grumpy: It seems like the sport-type games are the most interesting. I've been waiting for a good tennis game, but I'll probably pick up the Mario Cart 'cause hey, you can't go wrong there. :D

I finally found one in a game shop for retail about a month ago. It was one of the best days ever, I almost cried at the store. The Wii is one of the most 'worth it' purchases I've ever made!

My girlfriend and I absolutely love the tennis and the bowling. It's amazing how responsive it is. You can also download tons and tons of old nintendo/super nintendo/n64/sega games down into the Wii and play them (Sonic, Mario, Excite Bike, Mario Kart 64, etc.).

Get one.

Wow guys, I think it's gonna be number one on my list now, thanks!!!!
Crap, another thing I gotta come up with money for, sheesh!

Wii all love the Wii.

while it is not as "hardcore" as a PS3 or Xbox, the Wii is by far the best console for getting non-gamers into the mix. And for me (now that i am away from college and easy access to gamers), is a big factor.

My wife got one for our 14 year old daughter for Christmas. The game pack is fun to play but my kid always kicks my butt. I bought Mario Galaxy because I've always enjoyed the Mario games. It's fun to play but I don't think the Wii platform enhances the play - in other words I think a conventional controller would work just as well. Same with the Sims game my daughter plays. I've heard that Mario Kart is a must-have so we'll be getting that.

One thing I like about it is you get at least a minimal amount of exercise waving the controllers around. The boxing game is a pretty good workout.

I haven't networked it yet.

I enjoy mine. The wife got some inside intel by using her girlish charm on a clerk at Circuit City a little over a year ago, so we were able to snag one when they were nearly impossible to find.

For me, the Wii is a good way to hang out with my wife and enjoy a little time together. She really like Wii Sports and some of the other games. Honestly, it also keeps her out of my hair so that I can play my Xbox360 with my friends online:P

I just picked up GTA IV this morning, so of course I had to get her Mario Kart;)

I finally got my hands on one last week and so far it's been well worth it.

I'm a big Zelda fan, so any time there's a new Zelda game, I'm all for it. So far is a fun game, after struggling to get the hang of the controls for a few minutes. I'll be getting Mario Kart for sure when it comes out as Mario Kart was one of the reasons I got a DS a few years ago.

Being on dial-up internet, I can't take advantage of all its nifty little features, but that's ok.

I enjoy playing Wii, but I think the 360 is better.
Just personal preferance.
Love my Gamecube. Wind Waker was the best Zelda game ever.

Many of the Wii games are pretty fun. I'm a 46 year old guy, and have been playing a good deal of Mario Kart online against opponents all over the globe. The Wii Sports games are good as well. My boys 7 and 10 play it whenever they can.

Don't have one. Have no interest in one. Don't foresee ever getting one.
How marvelously relevant!

To the original question:
I do not personally own a Wii but my brother has for over a year and I have played it plenty of times at his place over that time span. I think it's a lot of fun and is a more "social" console than others. It's definitely in the Nintendo spirit: more geared towards "fun" than "serious gaming."

I think non-gamers and those who just want to have fun enjoy it a lot, and more serious gamers are less interested, or just see it as more of a novelty. I'm somewhere in-between I guess in that I grew up playing lots of video games and was serious about them in the past, but these days couldn't care less. For a guy like me it's still a lot of fun.

I have had my Wii for over a year. I think that it is a great console for playing games with a group of people. However, solo play in my opinion is a little weak.

The controls can be awkward and frustrating sometimes when forced into a game where a thumb stick / mouse just works better. And when special gyrations must be made with the controller at just the right time it can make even the most interesting game tiresome and repetitive.

I do recommend the Wii though it is a really revolutionary concept that will give hours of enjoyment with the family if that is what you are looking for. If you are looking for a more "adult" and graphically advanced system look elsewhere.

just my .02.

I totally agree with this. When people tell me they want one, I tell them that the Wii is always more fun at someone else's house. Because I never used it on the big screen, I hooked it up to my bedroom TV and I must admit the headlines and weather reports are quite convenient to check out before going to bed.

My roommate had one. It was pretty cool...but all we ever played was the sport games that came with it. Tried two other games...they both sucked. Surprisingly, the sport games didn't get boring as there's game variants for each sport and "training" modes.

He sold it the day before we saw the Mario Kart commercials. I've not played it yet...but to me, it's kinda like the Xbox and Halo. I pretty much got an Xbox (after the price had dropped some) just for that ONE game. Halo and Cabelas hunting stuff (a little ghost recon) was all I ever played. If I had only had Halo I wound've regretted it. I think the Wii/Mario Kart would be the same deal.

I got one launch day. This is a mediocre game platform. If your idea of good games are computer solitaire and minesweeper, then you will probably like this, i.e. a "casual" gamer.
The good thing is that it has wireless 802.11 B connectivity out of the box, and an integrated web browser with news and weather channels.
Nintendo severely restricts online gameplay; you cannot communicate with other online players and therefore it makes team coordination impossible for team games.
The XBox 360 has much better games, albeit the console is notorious for reliability issues.
Nothing I've seen beats Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. A superb game for those who like real games.

Isn't there a sword fighting game with the Wii and if so is it any fun? Seems like it would make a fun platform for that...

I prefer the Wii over most modern consoles. When Controllers started having 15-20 buttons on them, I stopped gaming completely because it was too much hassle to keep track of what button did what function and to figure out the combination moves. The Wii certainly simplifies things since I've got maybe 3 buttons to worry about and the rest is just me flailing my arms about like an idiot. Perfect!

The Rayman Raving Rabbids games make great use of the controllers and movement functions. The Wii zapper converts the remote and nunchuck into a gun type controller and comes with Link's Crossbow training. Very cool actually having to turn your gun to aim. I haven't tried Mario Kart yet but I hear its tons of fun.

Don't own one, but several of my fraternity brothers do. Great console. Mario Cart is awesome on the Wii.
