nite-ize S-biner demagnetized my compass!!!

I have a nite-ize #3 non coated s-biner for my keys, and it demagnetized my brunton 9068 watchband compass.
I just wanted to give everybody a heads up to this, I don't know if it is something I did unwittingly to the 'biner or if that's just how they are.

anybody know if there is a way to fix the compass? can I re-magnetize it? or is it just delta tango?
thanks and I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else
