NJ Coyotes

Longbow, that story.... Are you freakin' serious?! The guy's life was completely ruined because he did what he could to protect his daughter from an attacking wild animal?! Do you have a reference for this? Not doubting you; I'd just like to hear more of the story. That is beyond insane. Even for California.

I'll see if I can locate the story through the local paper up there and if I can, I'll post the link to it here.

Normark - So there is a confirmed sighting of a cougar in ontario?? I swear i saw a dead one in the river behind my parent's place, and no one believed me. I also saw some guy with a bow at the whirlpool about 10 years back talking about hunting cougars.

I see coyotes around where I live here and there. Not too concern with them since they are pretty small compare to my dog.

Hey Sherlock, check here.

Doc

Confirmed means you have the body !!! 'Sightings ' don't mean anything at least in states like NY and PA where "mountain lions don't exist" !!

I'm near Albuquerque and, on any given night, you'll find coters running through the yards around the neighborhoods. Cats can turn up missing and my sister's smaller dog (approximately 35 pounds) was attacked by a presumed pack in its yard one night. Their German Shepherd was able to save the small dog, but it was torn up fairly badly.

I've not heard of any people attacked, yet. The town finally hunted a pack or two, but there are plenty more out there. For the health of all creatures, the coyotes numbers really do need to be controlled. If they can't be successfully relocated, they need to be hunted, as there are no natural predators (at least, around here) for the coyotes.
