NJKCA membership question

Just let me know when/where, I should be there. Who else could come?

Zenghost said "maybe", depending on school/work, don't remember which. PsychRN said that he doesn't drink, and works some nights anyway. Someone from Maui said that he'd go if he was on the island, that's all I remember offhand. Basically, there were no "yeses". :(

Oh my cousin (mililani) is into knives. Spydies mostly.

I can call her up.

Got some friends to, but they're kina...hehe, I don't know if I want to bring them to a meeting. :D

I'm there. I think. :D Time/place and I'll probably get to it, unless someone dies.

Oh, I don't drink either... ;)

We meet in a restaurant with a bar. I don't drink alcohol either. I drink orange juice or coffee.

Start off by deciding you want to have some sort of knife community.

Someone can be the center for collecting names - userIDs, if any - email or postal addresses. You might be surprised how many people are willing to think about it.

Also, "Hawaii" is not just one small town. Even people who want to get together may not be able to do the travelling every month, so don't get discouraged. We had the same problem, but we get a good turnout now. Of course, half the area of New Jersey has been turned into highways, so ... :)

What kind of knife shows do you have? Making a point of meeting at a show might be a good place to start. We have people who knew each other from NY shows.

Go through Bladeforums and other forums with an eye out for Hawaiians. Add them to a prospective members list, and send out a group email hug -- I mean, invitation :) once you have a few committed members ready to begin regular meetings. It's easier if you can pick some regular time, like our "third Sunday of the month" so you can all plan way ahead to be there.

Good luck! It's a lot of fun, especially when you start getting people from outside the BFC community. Just wait till the first time someone flies in from Guam to meet you all :p

Klesk told me about some historical arms show (something like that) in march (?).

That's the only one I've heard of. And every time I go Young Guns/Power edge(Klesk, I went there!), I keep forgeting to ask.

I got a maybe from a friend today, he wants to know date and place. The other guy (more likely to come) never came school.

Just wondering, what exactly do you guys do at meetings? I've seen pics from the NJ meetings, looks like a bunch of people messing around a restaurant, with knives all over the place.

Klesk, any ideas of where we can go?

If it's only a little bit of people, Aiea Cue may be good, of course people get shot and stabbed there...

Great little restaurant. It's actually a chain. It's dark, quiet, small sections off in corners away from each other. They give us a large area in back ... they aren't too busy Sunday afternoons.

We clear as many tables in the area as we need to lay out our collections or new knives to show off. We wander around admiring the newest acquisitions and playing with stuff we don't have ourselves. We talk, talk, talk with each other, about knives or anything else. Eventually, we push the knives aside and those of us who are hungry order lunch.

Once you reach a certain critical mass of guys who show up almost all the time, you will begin to get a few outsiders, friends of friends who stop by. I still think in terms of about a dozen people showing up, but we've had a few meetings with over twice that.

The nice part of where we meet is that we don't get charged for the space, since so many of us do order lunch, the retaurant gets its money that way.

I believe that the Historic Arms show is March 5 and 6 this year, but I haven't confimed it yet.

I don't know where to go, I always assumed that we would go to a bar or restaurant, seems like "going out" for me is synonymous with drinking. I don't have a drinking problem, really...

Aiea Cue, however, is out. I used to hang out downstairs, at PC Bang (yes, I am also a computer geek) and Aiea Cue is a scary place. At least we wouldn't look out of place with knives.

I have a friend that owns a bar, she probably wouldn't care if we covered a table with knives, but I don't think you can go there if you are underage.

For now, maybe we can start a thread for a roll call for the Arms show, that would at least let us see how many local people are interested in getting together.

Ok, sounds good.

The downstairs place is 808Burnerz now (something like that). I heard the owner sells buds, at the counter.
