NMFBM CG vs LE vs Custom

Hey guys.

I'm new to the forums and have only recently heard about Busse knives (never seen one here in Australia)
I've done a lot of reading over the past couple of weeks on them and am very interested in them. Mainly the Nuclear Meltdown Fusion Battle Mistress.

My question however is, what's the difference between the NMFBM Limited Edition vs Custom Shop? And what are the ones numbered up to #13? Very Limited edition?

Sorry if this has been covered before but I was unable to find where it's been posted.

Thanks.

So no difference in length or width, just blade finish?
I'm very keen on getting one. Just deciding on what handles look best.

Contact Busse. He they have any more blanks left they will gladly make you one.
I got mine some weeks ago through the custom shop myself.
You got a nice guy in Australia with a lot of busse knives...
He's here on the forum, Rob Stanley....
Do a quick search if here and you'll find him...
Best of luck in your quest for new steel...
The NMFBMle is one awesome blade...

In quite a few of the Busses, the LE is thinner, although this is not a firm rule. I almost always prefer the thinner blade stock, and will pay the extra LE cost when necessary to get it.

I thought that the LE was typically thicker? Anyway, I agree with you 100% on the thinner blade part. My first NMFBM was way to thick for my liking, I sold it and was a little disappointed doing so but I wasn't going to use it. I just recently gave it another chance and picked up the blade below and love it. It's around .25/.28 thick and very nice feeling in the hand, manageable to chop with and swing around without getting too tired. Here's some more info and pics hope it helps:

Perfect. Thanks for the info guys.
I would have thought thicker would be better, for chopping at least but I guess thinner would be a better all rounder. I do have a custom Autine axe on its way over from Latvia so I'll try for a thinner blade for something that'll do everything else, in style.

...However on second thought, I have plenty of slicing and skinning knives for finer work. I guess I'll be pretty limited with choice these days anyway.

Welcome to the forums mate. There are a few of us Busse knife nerds in Oz. I believe a few us are down your way too.

Big Busse blades are certainly things to behold. If you get a hold of one, you will know what all the fuss is about. They are designed and encouraged to be used and used hard.

Now, that said, hide your credit card and make sure you're up to date with your mortgage because it's a very very slippery, albeit extremely fun, slope :)

I think the earlier ones were .25, and the ones made latter and custom shop blades are .28".

I have both a .25 and .28 from different periods... :)

Lots of Busse Between Sydney and Newcastle mate. a close mate of mine is out around Lake McQ and has his share and another looooong time member is near Toronto.

Myself and a couple of the other regulars are here in Sydney and there are a couple of guys around the Central Coast... :)

Yep lots of different thicknesses...

I LOVE all three of my Mistresses!!!!! :D

I don't think you'll be disappointed no matter if you order a Custom Shop or hunt down an original CG.

I'm not rich by any means however I'm not the sort of person who'd spend over $800 on a knife and not use it. From what I've read and seen these are not show knives you keep on a bookshelf and admire but never use, but hard working tools that yearn for work (and play).

Evlcat. That top photo of the LE looks awesome. The edges look much smoother, sleeker and shinier compared to the custom. That's a great collection you have there.

Rob and Andy. I look forward to seeing your collections. I'll keep a close eye on these forums to see what's in Aus.
Funds should be in order shortly and another Busse will be hitting our shores soon. Fingers crossed.

Thanks, JohnTheTexican that's perfect!

This knife will be replacing my Ka-Bar Grass Machete, which I would recommend you all stay away from. Not worth the $99 I paid.

Thanks all for the replies. Very helpful.

Just so you know, you can get a CG ASHBM right now from the regular run and not have to pay $800 for it. That being said, I'm waiting for my satin/black canvas NMFBM to ship. Here's a NMFBM, NMFBM CG that was stripped and taken to the grinder, and one of the ASHBMLEs. The CG ASHBM looks good too imho.

2Dead. That LE looks quite a bit smaller than the NMFBM. I just love the heft to the NMFBM. I'm still just deciding on handles now. Something that looks a little like timber but will last the life of the knife through the generations.
That top one there had a really nice looking handle. I like the deep red in it.

The ASHBM is actually thicker at 5/16 or .31, but not as wide. I think it's 1.8" vs 2". The ASBM had some holes drilled in the tang for balance. The top handle above is black/red G10. I like hand shaped black or brown canvas for chopping. Somtimes the brown canvas has a reddish tint to it.

Sorry for the necro-bump. Some nice pics in here and good info.

I have a NMFBM question, maybe someone can chime in.

I've had several NMFBM and they've always had hand smoothed handles. I found another recently and the handles are not hand smoothed, they have full texture.

Were the NMFBM's offered with texture or hand smoothed handles?

Here is a pic -
