NMFBM CG vs LE vs Custom

Sorry for the necro-bump. Some nice pics in here and good info.

I have a NMFBM question, maybe someone can chime in.

I've had several NMFBM and they've always had hand smoothed handles. I found another recently and the handles are not hand smoothed, they have full texture.

Were the NMFBM's offered with texture or hand smoothed handles?

Here is a pic -

If I remember correctly

There were some "blade show specials" that would show up now and then.

Here is the announcement for the NMFBM when it came out in 08

Man that was a fun time back then.

The Limited 13 CS NMFBM's have the very last of Busse's machined Snakeskin canvas Micarta on them. Other than having standard thickness handles in a rare version of micarta, they are the same as NMFBMLE's (satin finished, same thickness if I recall). LE's have hand shaped "magnum" thickness Tigerhide handles.

This is the knife in question. It looks like a NMFBM. Is .26 thick. Has textured black paper micarta handles though.
yep Like I said up in the post It may have been a "blade show knife"
what would happen is they would some times put the fully machined scales on the NMFBM
I believe I had one at some point ?

I know I have for sure seen one or more machined scaled NMFBM other than the 1 of 13 CS versions.

I went to every one of the Blade shows in ATL back then in fact all of them from 2005 to 2018
2018 was the first year Busse no longer had a booth at Blade

During that time back before 2010 you never knew exactly what would show up :)

I have had a few NMFBM's over the years.

that is a cool one for sure.

I personally prefer the hand shaped scales.

8 NMFBM's
the bottom 2 are FBM's

If you look at the FBM scales and the NMFBM scales it would not be a hard swap

and keep in mind the Custom shop was still open back in 08 :)

Right on. Theres so many ways these cookies crumble, its buck wild. I wasn't sure what exactly I stumbled on.

I am a big fan of the NMFBM. Its weight, balance, and size is in a sweet spot for hard use. I have two CG NMFBM and am stoked to put this one in the collection.

I'm with you on the hand smoothed handles! They're outstanding.

Not just Blade East. I have 2 pix somewhere of a whole line of about 20 coated & satin NMFBM's with machined magnum handles from the Great Easton (PA) Travelling Trough II show in 2011. There's a bunch out there. I really think that Busse tried to have a bunch at the shows these were brought to because of how short the production run was. (11-12 days)

I may have missed something somewhere, but with the newest run of numbered, CS Mistress knives, what is the highest number they are going to?

Production numbers have never been disclosed for large runs. There have been Limited "Numbered" runs say 10-20-300 etc but that is as close as we'll ever know. The Mistress run allows the choice of number if you got in early enough....or have a specific Number "911".

The seller said he bought mine at a gun show 17 years ago. Maybe they were attending all sorts of shows in the early 2000's.

Likely someone bought it for themselves then sold it at a local gunshow ?

Or if it was in OH, it could have been Mike Wood (ThatMguy)? he would do Gun Shows

either way Great snag :)

It shipped out of eastern Indiana - only 20 miles from the Ohio state line. Definitely in that zone.

Nice find, Will.
Here’s a 0.293” sage/machined… apparently made from the thicker LE blank.
(Kitty had to touch it when I laid I’d down)

Cool combo there, that Sage with Tigerhide Canvas micarta. Aa ya know, TH linen micarta was used on the LE's...
Reminds me of my SARsquatch that is Tanker Grey with black canvas micarta- SARsquatches had tan, & black linen on them & were Sage & black crinkle coated. Black canvas was used on the 2008 SE 'Squatches, but they were Comp finished.
