NMFBM & CS Khukri

I modded my CS handle, had the same experience as you did specially that rear knob, just cut it with a knife and sand it. The handle is just as important as the blade geometry specially in large choppers, some manufacturers forget that. I purchased to Kukri blanks from the Camillus overstock and I'm looking for a maker to do G-10 handles (due to added weight it should improve balance).

I purchased 2 NMFBM, one in G-10 and one in Micarta, the weight difference is notable, the G-10 feels better balanced (same experience with my Hell Razor in G10 vs the Micarta), feels more lively, the NMFBM in micarta feels a little blade heavy. Also the G-10 smoothness is good so it does not abrade the skin during heavy chopping. When ordering the Zilla I think I'm going hand finished G-10.

Great review!

Great review indeed!

Does G10 transfer more vibration to the hand than micarta?

Enjoyed the review, Peter. Looks like the NMFBM was up to the Cold Steel Challenge. It will be even more fun to see the Killa Zilla do the same. :D:thumbup:

I have not test them enough to make a difference but I think they feel the same regarding vibration. The improved balance might make it easier to swing (yet the overall weight is more) so probably you will feel less fatigued.

Thanks Dante for the input

Nice review. I have always wanted a good Kuk to chop with. I had a trailmaster bowie, and agree that prolonged chopping with the Kraton handle causes rubbing and hot spots. That handle material is just too grippy on my hands. I think a micarta or g-10 or wood handle would greatly improve it.

I too agree that the kraton handle material creates hot spots in your hands while chopping. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that it may be due to it being too rubbery or grippy which leads to more friction during chopping. I think that micarta or the even smoother G10 are good materials for the handles, provided your not using gloves. If you are using gloves then Res-C or kraton is great. That's just my thoughts. Others may have a different opinion.
