Can someone help me understand the difference between these two knives? Couldn't find info on the BWMLE on hogcult.com. I've acquired a number of midsized Busse knives (ASH-1, ASH-LE, ASH-1 Skinny, SAR-6, NMSFNO, SFNO) and now looking to add one of the biger fella's. Really appreciate input.

Thanks!

well the NMFBM is pretty much the king of Busse choppers but the it is heavier than the BWMLE. It is a trade off, BWM LE is a fine chopper but not as good as it's big brother but lighter weight makes it easier to carry.... oh hell get both

Yep, both are beautiful, you should get them both =) Don't count out the FBM LE, they are lots of fun too :D

FBM LE

NMFBM LE

They are about the same blade length but the BWM LE is lighter (around 23 oz) at .22 thick. This custom shop was made with an LE blade blank and has heavier G10 handles, but the amount of metal removed for the clip point and recurve makes it about the same weight as the BWM LE with black paper scales.

The NMFBM is much heavier, especially if it is a thicker .28+ show version with G10 handles (the one I had was .285 thick and a 35 oz monster ).

The original release NMFBM's are thinner and lighter, especially if you can find the hand smoothed micarta, but they still aren't as light as the BWM LE. The thin NMFBM's are probably some of the best choppers ever made by Busse, but the BWM LE is no slouch either, especially if you plan on carrying it any distance while on foot.

They are both awesome blades and you will like either one, but you need to determine if you want a super heavy chopper that you don't plan on lugging around any more than you have to or just a heavy chopper that is still manageable for hiking/backpacking, etc.

I kept the one in the first pic, but not the one in the second due to it being excessively heavy to carry anywhere. The extra 12 oz is equal to a sheath, plus a smaller knife & sheath, but that is just me. If I had it to do all over again I would pass on the NMFBM and go straight to the BWM LE. ;)

here is a pic I have of the nm next to a BWMLE. The NM is the choppin king but the BWM is a very capable knife, feels much more practical when in hand and IMO, its the prettiest busse ever made. Either will put a big smile on your face when you hold/use them, good luck.

I think the difference between the BWMLE ad NMFBM has been pointed out perfectly, so I can start confusing you now ;) :p

Look at the pic from DERICDESMOND and tell me why you don't consider the B-11 (the third knife from the bottom). It weights only about 17 oz - 6 oz less than the BWMLE - and its chopping capability is reeeeealy impressive (some say better than the BWM). It is also available on the x-change for reasonable prices. On top of that you get a supercomfortable and shockabsorbing res-c handle. This knife is a beast

B11 for carrying and using and NMFMBLE and BWMLE for Fondling and Worshiping.

Yea, you are right, you are going to confuse him. When you give someone new so many options it's overwhelming :D But it's always good to have all the options in front of you. Just don't go telling him about the FFBM and CGFBM, LOL....

I was in a similar position and opted for the BWM LE which will go in a dangler or strapped to the backpack.

Confusing, yes. Painful to the pocketbook even more so :)

They are both excellent no doubt, but don't think for a second that the BWM is "thin". It may seem that way compared to the NMFBM that is a freak on steroids in the thickness department. The "thin" BWM is like the thickness of 4 machetes put together. What it comes down to is what you plan to do with it.
If you plan on using it and carrying a lot go with the BWM, its more than thick enough to be used as a prybar, not to mention a knife, and its just light enough to carry and swing for extended periods of time. Something heavier than the BWM, you better spend more time at the gym than I do.
Really, both are Busse excellence, but the BWM is more practical if you ask me.

Based on the fact that you have several "mid-sized" Busse's, I would be willing to bet you end up with both an NMFBM and BWM :D;)
