NMFSH compared to NMFBM

How do these 2 compare, I am thinking the Nuclear Meltdown Fusion Steel Heart would be a better overall package for the backpack/sheath carry chopper based knife. The NMFSH blade is shorter (easier to carry and control for smaller tasks when needed) but the added thickness/weight should help make up for the lack of leverage with blade length compared to the Nuclear Meltdown Fusion Battle Mistress for a chopper. I know the NMFBM is a more popular/the most sought after Busse model, but is this due to its limited run and availability of the Battle Mistress, or for added performance compared to a Busse model such as the NMFSH.

I can honestly say as much as I love my NMFBM I still want to pick up a NMFSH. I think in terms of carrying it on a belt or backpack you are right it will be smaller and a bit lighter but, still pack the punch needed to handle all tasks.

I carry my BM in a beauty of a Skystorm Leather sheath. It's just a tad to large for all around use in my opinion. I like to pair it up with a smaller Busse to cover all bases.

I was in the same boat as you. I ended up with a NMFSH and I love it, but guess what I am on the hunt for???? You got it a CGFBM. So my advice is buy both, you will anyway.

The NMFBM is a much better knife IMO. I have both, and the NMFSH is great, but it doesnt have a good chopping feel and balance like the NMFBM. I would jump on the NMFBM if you can...you wont regret it. By the way, My NMFBM weights maybe 3-5 oz more than the NMFSH. It's also 1/4'' thick though, which reduces the weight somewhat.

I have been on the search for a NMFBM for a while now....but a brand new NMFSH with sheath popped up last night for what I thought was a pretty good deal and I jumped on it. With me having money tied up with my new purchase at this time, I am trying to make sure it was worth putting the grail on hold for a while. I don't see much for comparison on these two blades, so I figure it would be worth getting some feedback from owners/users of the knives. Thanks for all the responses so far....:D

The nmfbm is very sweet & highly respected.
The nmfsh was not as well balanced for me anyways.

I'll have a NMFSH in my hands soon, I'll be able to compare to the ASHBM, they have same thickness.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with a NMFSH it was my first Busse and I've cherished it since.

The only Mistress I have is a ASHBM. Chopping power yeah naturally goes to the ASHBM its bigger but for a 9 or 9 1/2 inch blade the NMFSH is no slouch its pretty heavy for its size.

I take the NMFSH out with a 3-4 inch blade and have no problem doing anything required around the campsite.

Congrats on your purchase.

The good news is that there is not a wrong answer. Both are beasts.

For me though, if chopping is on the agenda then its NMFBM all the way.

The NMFSH is not my favorite Busse -- and I was hoggish and lucky enough to snare numbers 1 and 2. I've never owned an FBM or NMFBM, but I do have two ASHBM's, which feel great in hand. It may be that I just prefer the straight handle.

If you want a chopper, I would think a dedicated chopper/Battle Mistress would be way to go. The NMFSH is a relatively short chopper but a large, heavy knife for other uses.

All of that said, the NMFSH is a beautiful beast to behold. It's a monster and many people love the Fusion handle. Just not for me.

Wait a minute now -- I haven't seen any convincing proof that NMFBM will out chop an ASHBM ;)

I couldn't really enjoy my NMFSHs. Especially the fat one. I had a CG NMFBM that I liked. Now I have a satin .27" thick NMFBM. I love it. Best of the bunch so far.

I asked for opinions between those 2 but didn't get a response. I'm sure a few people have both. I'm trying to convince myself I need another Battle Mistress.

I would also like to hear opinions on NMFBM and ASHBM. All I have heard as far as comparison was the NMFBM handle ergos made a great knife (original Battle Mistress) a now perfect knife, especially when chopping for a while.

Garth said it pretty good in that "there is not a wrong answer. Both are beasts" Well said "G" but I would add that with both knives being so similar that it would be purely a persoanl pref and you would need to get them both and start swinging. Don't make up your mind in one afternoon cause that I think would leed to a hasty decision. Take a week or two with a couple days break between sessions.

Me, I don't really see a difference between the NMFSH/NMFBM, EXCEPT now if you in fact have a.250" Original run NMFBM, NOW your talking. The .25" is one of the best IMHO (BM) out there. I would be remiss though in not including the new ASHBM. For some reason I find this blade easy to use as well and yet it is much thicker than the .25" NMFBM, go figure.

It all comes down to choice, comfort, how you feel while in control, etc etc. I no longer have my NMFBM but I do have the ASHBM & NMFSH. Now days I lean toward the ASHBM & SHBM for my go to's. I have become a big fan of the SH design only after having been a huge Fusion supporter. Yea I know kinda backwards being the SH came before the Fusions but live and learn eh.

My NMFBM was a catch and release for me because my tendinitis was really bad at the time so I can't give a comparison, but the NMFSH is a pretty good chopper.

I In fact do have an original run NMFBM and it's a BEAST! I thought the question was which would be the best all around knife. As far as choppers go I'll never get ride of my NMFBM. I love it. I say get both and enjoy!

I don't think that either of those would make for a good backpack carry blade. Too heavy. I have an original run CG NMFBM, the skinny one, and it is a monster chopper, especially with a reprofiled convex edge, but I wouldn't want to carry it far. A Basic 9 or Basic 11 offer a lot a chop for little weight as a pack knife.

Eventually I will break down and get an ASHBM, then there will be a Mistress chop off.

Your procrastination is what's causing the U.S economy to fail ;)
