NMFSH compared to NMFBM

I don't think that either of those would make for a good backpack carry blade. Too heavy. I have an original run CG NMFBM, the skinny one, and it is a monster chopper, especially with a reprofiled convex edge, but I wouldn't want to carry it far. A Basic 9 or Basic 11 offer a lot a chop for little weight as a pack knife.

Eventually I will break down and get an ASHBM, then there will be a Mistress chop off.

I usually have a least 12 beers (12oz each) in my backpack when I am on my missions.... so I am never packing light and if worse comes to worse I can leave 4 beers behind to make up for weight :D

Spoken like a true Hog. May I offer one suggestion though. Pound for pound a good tequila will go a lot further than 12 beers. You can easily save some space and probably some weight and still accomplish the "mission".

ALWAYS PREPARED.....I keep the flask and trail mix in the side pocket just in case the mission does not go as planned and I need to make camp :D

Your procrastination is what's causing the U.S economy to fail ;)

Silly me. And here I thought that resingirl's high school tuition bills were keeping several teachers and administrators employed. It sure feels that way. It's a good thing that I blew her college fund on Busse blades years ago, or else there would be nothing to show for it.

Lol well said

Thanks Nitaino! It's my baddest knife and rig! I want to eventually pick up another TGLB with a matching rig.

Lolololol:thumbup::thumbup:lololololol...... May I say, brilliant......

NMFSH handles fast (only done air chops) & feels more like a knife but the NMFBM packs a big wallop, lots of oomph. Have to build up the courage & use the NMFSH...then I'll have a chop off...:D

NMFSH 0.32~27.64oz & NMFBM 0.25~29.33oz
Would like to have the NMFBM re-profiled to bite a little deeper. I don't think either are all that heavy. The NMFBM certainly has an aura about it & I luv it. I won't be getting rid of them anytime soon

Glad you mentioned that the NMFSH feels more like a knife (at least for cutting air), I was wondering to what extremes/specs Busse users start feeling like their blades are pushing the bounds of the knife catagory.....but then again any blade that you don't need to use both hands to control is a knife IMO. Hopefully will hear the results of the "chop off" in the near future Yabba;)

Hello Guys, I finally got my B.I.G. Nuclear Meltdown Fussion Steel Heart and I already had a Anneversary Straight Handle Battle Mistress LE, the first thing I noticed is the handle on my N.M.F.S.H. is straight, it is only an illusion because of how the top of the handle is contoured it appears slopped down but when I compared it to my A.S.H.B.M. LE it's just as straight at the bottom palm swell, as much as I luv my A.S.H.B.M. LE the size of my new NN.M.F.S.HN.M.F.S.H. to me IMO is more practical especially with the choil on actually both of them but the smaller size seems more versital as a camp/survival knife, actually the difference in weight is about 3oz's approx. making the new N.M.F.S.H. A very good chopper, for my hand and I wear a large glove Busse nailed it the way the top of the handle is contoured the top of the handle also reduce the pressure points that could cause hit spots, I'm very pleased with my new BB.I.G. N.M.F.S.H. infact I could almost say it's my fav, and I luv my A.S.H.B.M. LE, like I said the handle only appears to be slopped down, but after I got the two side by side I was one of the happiest campers because for what I do in the woods, yes bears aren't the only ones heh heh heh I like a straight handle especially when I baton, Thank You Lexi & Pokey ,,,

Had the opportunity to help a neighbor dispose of an eight foot, 6 inch diameter Christmas tree. I don't have a battle mistress but I do have one of Hunter Martin's Fell Beast bolo machetes. I compared my BIG NMFSH to it and to my surprise the NMFSH chopped better. It did not glance, took deep bites, and was comfortable. The machete handled limbing small branches better, but that was it. I am very impressed with the balance and over all usefulness of the NMFSH.

For me NMFBM hands down is the better knife. Better balance, similar weight, same type of handle, better performance. NMFBM has better handle ergonomics because of the thinner blade stock.
The longer length of NMFBM also makes it better chopper IMO.

I do agree that the NMFSH has more of a knife feel than the forward weight of the NMFBM. But, if you can find the fatty NMFSH (.370 thick rather than the .311 of the regular) it packs all the brute force of the NMFBM into a shorter package at the same weight. Something to consider if the bit of extra length is a factor either way.

This is a perfect example of why one cannot rely on the simple labels of 'NMFSH vs NMFBM' in the Busseverse. Both of these blades came in a number of 'flavors', in terms of blade thickness, at the very least, and possibly edge geometry. And that makes a huge difference in how a blade cuts and chops. Geometry cuts. Many people here (BF) do not consider edge geometry when they talk about performance or chopping or slicing. Geometry cuts. Folks tend to dwell on 'Brand A in 3V is better than Brand B in 52100' without looking at primary edge angle, thickness behind the primary edge, and the blade profile. There is a physical reason that an Elmax Steak Knife will be better at slicing potatoes than a MOAB. Geometry cuts. What I tell you three times is true.

Back the the OP. IMHO, neither of those choice would be very good for a carry/pack knife.

Guess that all depends on how thick you like your potatoes sliced :D A sharp knife is a sharp knife -

I personally would take a NMFBM over a NMFSH any day. That extra length on the NMFBM works great for me, but I wouldn't consider either knife a carry knife.
