Hey All,

Just wanted to get some feedback from fellow hogs, dogs, and rats about a matchup between the NMFSH vs SHSHII (ASH-2)

Which is better for different purposes, which carries better, and which one would be a better all arounder?

Thanks!

Well, you may as well put the Ergo SteelHeart in there too. It's the same blade length I believe.

To answer: in my experience, if it were JUST ONE knife, I'd go NMFSH all the way all day. Big can do smaller but smaller can't always do bigger.

That being said, overall I'd say I enjoy the STEELHEARTERGO more. Lighter, plenty big enough to do a bunch of cool stuff, and easier to carry for longer.

My $.02

Nmfsh.

Handled the others, the nmfsh to me was more comfortable to use. Im abnormal though.

WHAT the heck is an ASH-2? I don't think those exist yet….. but feel free to speculate on what they will be if they ever become reality…. :p

I wouldn't put too much stock in the configuration they were teased at Blade Show either, Jerry has a way of tweaking things when/if they finally come available.

I'll go against the norm here and say I prefer the SHSH to the NMFSH and hope the ASH-2 is close to the original when it comes out and if at all possible make mine THINFI :-)

Just to clarify a few things…..

What you refer to as the SHSH II is really just the Steel Heart II, there is no 'Straight Handle' in the name despite what many refer to it as. In the same way that what many call 'Straight Handle Battle Mistress', it was in fact just called 'Battle Mistress'. The Straight Handle was added to the nomenclature later once the fusion/ergo handles were introduced, as a way of keeping the BM/SH series apart.

Here's an ad for the Steel Heart II….. I have never seen a print from way back where it was listed as 'Straight Handle' Steel Heart II.

Also, ASH-1 is the abbreviation for 'Anniversary Steel Heart - 1' which was a reissue of the original Steel Heart 1 (not Steel Heart II). Therefore calling the Steel Heart II an ASH-2 is not at all accurate, as the Steel Heart II came before the ASH-1 which was in fact a Steel Heart - 1 reissue.

Hope that helps….. ;)

Until the Ash-2 becomes a reality, one cannot compare one to the other-The supposed specs on the Ash-2 are suppose to be 9 inches long, and a yet determined thickness-If this is true the NMFSH has a 9 1/2 inch blade, the Ash 2 9 inches, they're will not be a whole lot of difference in the performance, only the handles

I'd love a straight type handled nmfsh

I understand that, but the OP was referring to the SHSH II or Steel Heart II as the ASH-2 (which it is not).

Not quite --- I was suggesting/assuming that the ASH-2 would be heavily inspired by the SHSH II ---- which is why I asked for people's experience with the SHSHII vs NMFSH's ---- regardless all posts, tips, suggestions, preferences, and stories are welcome.

Well, IMHO when it comes to knives it comes down to two things...Purpose or Preference. You are either going to buy for what you need it for, or if it's for a collection or just to admire, it comes down to what you like...for me there is one knife that really does it for me, and that is the Fat NMFSH! To me that is one of, if not the best looking and feeling knives I have ever had the pleasure of holding! But again, it's a personal thing.

It's essentially a fatter ffbm, with a clip point. I'm in. Put em up for sale.

Well now that we know the specs:

What niche would the ASH-2 fill that the NMFSH wouldn't effectively keep up with? I'm guessing the ASH-2 will weigh in between 21-23 oz.
