I have and love my NMSFNO, but am thinking of trading it for a Sarsquatch. I think the sarsquatch is more "carry friendly." I feel like the NMSFNO isn't something I want to take with me everywhere while camping. Looking for something 'm more apt to keep with me at all times, like the sarsquatch. Any advice?

Define "carry-friendly" in the terms by which you mean. :) Lighter? thinner? Sheeple-friendly? ...etc. Would help us to give better advice.

I have both, and personally prefer the NMSFNO. There's nothing wrong with the SarSquatch, but at least for me, the NMSFNO feels better in my hand and has a full spine if you want to baton.

When I think of carry friendly, I think lighter, slightly shorter and generally something that's comfortable to carry. My NMSFNO is a GREAT knife, but it's a bit heavy/ bulky. I like the idea of something a bit thinner, but still being good enough to baton with. I also use a bulky chuddy bear sheath which is hung from my belt. That may be the problem too.

I've got a NMSFNO that rides in a leather dangler-style sheath. I've also got a Sarsquatch that I carry in a Buy Brown kydex sheath. The Sarsquatch package is definitely easier to carry for extended times, being thinner, shorter and lighter. Also, being higher on the belt is a big part of that. It just doesn't drag my britches down as bad. :D

But I don't know that I'd give up my NMSFNO to get a Sarsquatch if I didn't have one.

But they are cool.

Maybe I would.

Nah.

Hmmm.......

Granted that the SARsquatch is lighter, it is really not by all that much... and this is comparing a CF version 'Sqatch to a coated NMSFNO. As far as carry goes, the handles on the 'Squatch make it to be as wide as the NMSFNO, and it is just slightly wider in blade height but about an inch less in blade length. I prefer the 'Squatch for woods carry...not that I do a lot of this, but it is more friendly to camping/hiking chores and such than the NMSFNO, with its flat pommel and wide blade style combined with a thinner blade stock and a nice thick handle to grip it 'n' rip it. ;)

As far as batonning the 'Squatch goes... Well, it does have a bit of a swedge, but it still has flat spine there, and I don't know about anyone else, but I baton with whatever wood is handy. If the baton stick breaks, just get another piece! :)

Personally, though, you might consider trying a kydex sheath for the NMSFNO before looking for a trade... I am a big fan of Chuddy Bear deaths as they look great and are freakin' bomb proof, but they are thick, and this might be why you find the NMSFNO to be bulky. I'd keep the Chuddy Bear sheath for it too, this way, you have options OR when you go to try trading it, having 2 sheaths to go with it is a good selling/trading feature.

For sheaths, my general rule is kydex for coated & CF blades, leather for satin & D/C blades...of course every rule is meant to be broken. :D

That's for sure!

In the past year or so, I've been whittling down my multiples to the "bare essential" multiples. The only 3 knives I've got duplicates of now are my NMSFNO, Sarsquatch and BOSS Streets. :D

EDIT - OOps! make that 4 - I forgot my ADs!

Great feedback. I know that many people consider the NMSFNO to be arguably the best all around Busse blade, which makes it hard to part with. Busse knives truly are an addiction, just like guns (for me at least.) I think it would probably behoove me to try out a kydex sheath before I get rid of this baby. That said, any of you recommend a good affordable kydex sheath? I should probably be looking for something that rides a little higher that my sagging dangler of a chuddybear leather sheath. Good call on all of my questions Jaxx!

There are many good kydex benders around here.

My personal favorite 2 for kydex sheaths are
Mashed Cat Outfitters (BF.com ID- "Grandsuave") www.mashedcat.com
Okuden (BF.com ID- "Oku") www.okuden.net

I've heard good things about Steelnut (that's his BF.com ID) kydex sheaths, but can't speak from personal experience on them yet.

Pricing is fairly consistant, but check the sites above...and you might have to PM Steelnut for a quote.

I hope I've been helpful, and you're welcome! :)

If you like your NMSFNO but feel it's a bit long to carry around. Drop down to a regular SFNO?

buy a SFNO (the greatest knife of all time)....AND SEND ME THE NMSFNO AND THE SARSQUATCH TO ME FOR DISPOSAL....SEE NO MORE PROBLEM!!:p

that is a tough call. i say keep the NMSFNO and get a SARSquatch! and get kydex for both!

agree with jaxx. mashed cat sheaths are awesome. personally my favorite. buy brown is great too. and azwelke makes some good, cheaper sheaths.

What about the new Boss Jacks. They are built like a tank and not overly heavy or long. Put one in a kydex sheath and you've got a nice little package.

I've never been an NMSFNO fan, having unloaded my two examples. I prefer the FSH in that size range, for it's better handle. But the SARSquatch is a great all-rounder, and it has better edge geometry.

To further confuse things, have you considered the Basic 7, Ratweiler, or Camp Tramp? And the SFNO, of course, as manix J mentions. (problem there is that an NMSFNO is cheaper than the SFNO)

Not being pushy here.....I am new to Busse's this Spring and have yet to put my hands on a NO or variant. I have an excellent shape Sarsquatch user with kydex if you wanna swap for a week and see if you really want to trade. I use them, but don't cut sunroofs out of cars like Ogre :)
