I've been in neck knife admiration mode for a while -- recently made a half-scale version of another knife that would've lent itself to that carry quite nicely and it got me thinking. Uh-oh...

And I've been wanting to keep one, too; I never have anything around for show-and-tell very long. Plus, keeping em is why I got involved in this in the first place!

I want one. So yesterday I ground this blade and knocked it out today. Talk about instant gratification, I'm so happy I broke out my bottle of Drambuie. :D

Specs: O1, Overall Length 5 3/8", Blade is 2 5/8". The handle is brass, red fiber, leather and ironwood. Now I have to work out the sheath, haven't made a neck sheath yet. Open for suggestions!

I don't post much, but just wanted to say
that's a sweet little knife! Clean lines,
nice curves...good job!

First off, NICE blade.

Just my thoughts, I'd think a good small leather sheath that holds the knife in by a small cross strap would be nice. Snap-button release on cross strap. Sorry for the crude terminology - Saturday night after boxing.

Yes, very pretty. Scagel immediately came to mind as well. I like it Dave. Good work.

Thanks for the nice words and sheath ideas. I think I'll go looking for some sinew and incorporate the cross strap too.

Jim, welcome! Thanks for joining us.

Jim and Epsilon, you make me feel good, I got my Scagel book out when I was doing the drawing for this one, really trying to do my homage to the great man. Really wish I'd had a crown the right size; thinking I did is what got me started down this path. Then I had to make do.

Thanks again, now I have one for myself and it feels good.

Dave

I like that a lot, Dave! Don't let anyone talk you out of it! The lines are really nice and I think that combo of materials is great. Don't know how to do it, but a primitive-looking sheath like the ones Karen Shook (sp?) makes for Daniel Winkler's knives would be sweet!:)

That's beautiful Dave. Wish I would keep one once in a while. You might try this for a sheath. On the last damascus neck knife I made (and gave away) my wife needlepointed a case for me. It had a belt clip and I lined it with kydex. I go into offices full of soccer moms and they have hissy fits if they see my knife or gun. I started wearing a little NAM mini derringer on a breakaway chain around my neck and if I keep one long enough, the knife in the needle point case. It looks like a glasses case.

I'm in there too, the very first thing that came to mind was, "very cleanly done Scagel."

You've got really nice lines on that knife whether it be small as it is or blown up 5 fold...very nice! :)

Thanks for all the kind words, I feel pretty darn good! :D

But dang; I had a standing order for some ammo at a given price and it came through yesterday, catching me with no money. Naturally I had to honor my deal, so I traded my knife off! I rationalize it by saying that was a pretty good day's wage, but it doesn't make me feel very good about it... Guess I'll have to get back in the shop this week and fix it.

Hmmm... Maybe I should make a full sized one...

Dave

That is one neat little knife, the brass and
ironwood is a naterial combo, not to sound like
a broken record but Sagel dose come to mind, I
make a replacment quickly. Gib
