No. 36 - Schizophrenic Tanto

Dave, Nick is correct you are always quick to post about another makers work.I like you consider myself an aspiring maker even though I have been doing it awhile. But on this one,I believe you have jumped the fence.Truly a beautiful knife and sheath.Dave:cool:

Hey, I'm not even going to comment on the knife, cuz it's all been said...

But, I got to tell you, I'm JUST as impressed with the single pic and the wonderful insets and color-matching borders. Two works of art!

Dave, Im impressed with your creation and craftsmanship. I love everything about it. Be proud.

Very nice Dave! In a word, CLEAN. I'm impressed and damnit, it takes a hell of a lot to do that. You need to show off more of your work from now on. I'd say you've got something profoundly unique in the Japanese style there. I think it leans more on the traditional than American style. You should call it a 'traditional hybrid'. he he Again, very slick, very nice and very CLEAN.

Wow, what a way to start the day, to read all these compliments! :) Coop, the note about the photo means a lot to me! I'm learning a couple things in Photoshop that are allowing me to make up for deficiencies in my photgraphy or lighting...

Well, I am looking forward to the next one! Hope I can pull it off again. Maybe one of these days I'll get a pic of one of my knives in a knife magazine like Robert Hankins or Gib or Nick. But even if I don't, hearing from you guys is all the vindication I need!

:D

i am useally un impressed with most of this kind of amerajap type stuff! just doesn't trip my trigger! this piece is outstanding! from the blade to bolster, wrap & that wooden shealth. a true work of art!

Dave, THAT IS AWESOME!!!! Man the sheath came out great. I think you just jump up in category as a knifemaker. exceptional quality.

Dave,
As you can see, I don't post that often, but, that knife is just Awesome. It all blends so nicely together.

You guys sure know how to make someone feel good. Thanks yet again for all the kind words.

Jason, it's differentially hardened and yep, I did it myself. I couldn't get it in this pic but the temper line is visible; the hardened area is more shiney than the soft. I didn't want to risk the knife because it's not mine, but I did put it through a simple cutting test; I sliced hard cardboard until I got bored, and it still shaved. My wife thinks I'm silly to shave my arms, but I get a charge out of it. :D Thanks for your interest.

Gorgious Dave,I've never been a big fan of Eastern styleknives but i think I may have to reconsider.
