Some may remember my enthusiastic statement that one way or another I'd own one of Rob's Rotary Platens by the end of the summer...I almost made it. :D

When it finally arrived I took my sweet time figuring out what I was going to make with it, and then this order came in for a Scagel repro. Problem solved.

So here's my first knife off this great new tool. Specs:

Overall Length: 12"
Blade: 6 3/4" O1, Differentially Hardened, Convex Ground, Hand Finish to 600 grit
Brass Guard
Brass, Black and White Fiber, and Leather Spacers
Purpleheart "Terminal" (in place of Stag crown)

It was fun!

Would love to try the rotory platen some time, untill then I'll just have to get by with my Coote.

That is a great Scagel repo, never thought of useing wood. Know if Scagel ever done one like that? Too cool!

I knew you wer up to something special Dave! That's one beautiful knife. The blade shape is perfect for a Scagel style and the handle is classy!

Terrific work !!!- a great endorsement for your skill and the Rob's device. I tried it this fall...very smooth and great control. I'll be calling Rob, too.

Man That is georgeous! Superb color combinations on those spacers. Great work with the leather.

im impressed!

Aw....shucks...!

Thanks guys. Will, I've never seen a picture of a Scagel knife with wood at the end. He probably had no need, with all the hunters coming his way and all the sheds I'm sure were all over Wisconsin. I like to think he wouldn't hold this against me though, given I can't find any Iowa deer with big enough antlers - you'd think with all this corn to eat they'd get some size on em. :)

I've come back to look at this darn knife several times now Dave.

I said before you would make him proud...I think I should have said jealous.

That knife flows from tip to butt and right back around again. As a maker I can sooo appreciate the lines in that handle and how you've gotten everything to meld. Definitely a knife that has to be held in hand to appreciate.

You just keep getting better all the time :D

Great Knife Dave
I love those spacers in the stacked handle. That Purple hart is becoming a favourite of mine. I had not seen any until you got me onto it.

I've scoured the archives - no pic of rotary platens or descriptions of usage.

I'm new to this, guys...

Can anyone offer an explanation?

Dave - the knife is excellent. How did you set the pin? (at the same time you glued everything up? or later?)

Very nice you spent some time stacking that one. very nice combo.
>>>.pendentive.... Robs rotary P is in the archives But I think it was with-in a non related tread
at least at first. I'll see if I can find it for you.

Update I can't search it ?? don't know why? I'm a gold member..
