No BOB for Me!

Nothing much worse than some dirtbag taking your stuff.

...While it was my fault, it still pisses me off thinking about it.

Your fault?! Not in the least.

Oh crap. FIVE YEARS of hunting waypoints gone. . .

Do yourself a favor once you get a new GPS. Download a free copy of EasyGPS or something similar and routinely back up your waypoints. It's a pretty handy tool, that will allow you to easily save and upload customized lists of waypoints depending where you're going that trip.

Evertime the subject of keeping a BOB in the car/truck has cropped up I always add that I wouldn't take the risk. It's sad to say but in this day and age ya can't afford to with all the scumbags hiding out in the trail head parking lots. They see ya leave your truck with water bottle/thermos etc and gear, it's obvious ya ain't gonna back for quite some time !!!
I got burned once by them, never again !!!

This is the glaring flaw in car/truck BOB's.

Cars get broken into with monotonous regularity. Cars also break down and need to be towed on rare occasions. Cars get into accidents, and need to be towed and owners taken to hospitals. I've known people who had each of these things happen to them, and they lost everything of value in that car. The tow truck driver will say he doesn't know anything about it, the body shop people will deny anything, and the mechanics as well are all innocnet and pure as a newborn bady.

It makes no sense to have anything of value in your car. It's been 20 years since my own truck was broken into and my BOB stolen. Nothing too bad, a surplus store machete, a small pot, bottle of matches, some bullion cubes and tea bags, some odds and ends. Replaced the whole thing for 25 dollars at the surplus store and K-mart.

In this day and age of compact electronics, cars are a good sourse of fast pawn money for GPS's, phone gear, and in states where leagal; guns. Some people who I wonder about their sanity, keep a truck gun behind the seat. Keeping any kind of gun in your un-attended car is insane. Putting gun stickers like NRA membership stickers on your car does not help.

Unplanned things happen in life. Don't keep anything in your car that can't be replaced cheap at the local 'mart. I try to keep my BOB in a cheap nylon duffle bag that stuffs under the seat and out of sight. People watch cars and the people who own them. Lots of the times it's somebody who knows you.

Gospel.

I leave NOTHING in that car. I just got back from the movies and that means I didn't carry anything with me in the car that I couldn't put it in a small bag or my pockets and vest. Leave nothing in the vehicle. When I go to work, I take a bag with me. I bring it in the house when I get home. People seeing me carrying the bag to and fro so, hopefully, they will neve break in to just take a look.

Gah, that sucks, but is sadly true. People won't be back to there are cars for a long time and there is no security to watch your car either. Need to keep whatever is in your car out of sight.

I rarely leave things of value in my car. If I do it's only for a short time. Sucks that you had that happen.

A couple of weeks ago I had a tweaked and tuned Uniden CB and the whip antenna stolen out of my jeep. I feel your pain brother, made me so mad I couldn't see straight. Chris

WOW! Thanks for the support, guys! Had a great day in the woods today, even though I didn't see a single elk or deer. (My partner ran into three big bulls, but the unit we're in is antlerless only in the late archery season . . .)

My wife was always on my case to bring the GPS in, and I usually did. (I hate it when I give her good reason to say "I told you so.")

Chris, they didn't get your limited edition Rachel Ray Bushcrafter, did they? ;)

Back in the day they crucified the baztardz.
It's a good time to reinstate that law.
The whole world is full of thieves.
Especially Washington and Wall street.

Sorry to hear your loss mate. Thievery is one of the lowest forms of crime in my opinion. The few times i've caught a thief, well let me say I wasn't too forgiving to them.

It's at times like this I feel grateful i've got a job that allows me to carry my small BOB in to the office. I do keep it in the bottom of my everyday rucksack though so nobody is the wiser to me having it.

Sorry to hear that!! Know the feeling ...hell, in Africa, the truck would have been taken!!

May all thieves rot in hell!! ..... Or send them to Africa, it's worse;)

sorry to hear man. These days even a empty pop can will get your vehicle broken into. I dont even bother locking my doors anymore, i got tired of paying $200+ every time my windows got shattered. (6 times)

It sucks when things get stolen. If you drive a pickup, a good toolbox in the bed is a worthy investment. Then you needn't worry about the contents of your cab.

I get around the issue by driving a beat up truck, and keeping the nice things with me in the house.

There is a special place in hell for those people who take things that don not belong to them. I think its right down the hall from the lawyers' brimstone shoveling center.
