This rule means I will not be renewing my membership when it expires. I'll just sell on facebook and other forums.

Good to know.

I love the rule because it levels the playing field and makes it fair for everyone.

Should be able to bump here after 6 days waiting 12 days is ridiculous.

It's 14 days. With the production folders subforum any bumping would make something you list go off the first page almost immediately.

What makes it fair? Your thread drops off the face of the earth after 2 days. Someone comes in 3 days later and post the same knife for the same price. And then you wait for 11 more days to have to repost.

When I'm browsing the for sale forum I normally don't go back more than 2 pages. I just don't have the time to look back further than that.

If I were in dire need of money it would be horrible.

I just wanted the powers that be to know that they're losing my money.

The powers that be have more knowledge in this issue than me and you combined.

You complain about your stuff being off the face of the earth in 2 days? How quick do you think it would be gone with everyone bumping their own threads constantly or even in a more limited time period? Also, if you need money so badly I would suggest not investing in knives. Put that emergency money somewhere else more liquid. Next, if folks admittedly aren't capable of using the search function to search for what they want do you really want to deal with them? There are other ways to get your ad out there. Put it in you signature and participate meaningfully in other parts of the forum and thousands of people will see it. Last, this forum offers you far more protection than social media if you choose to use it.

If you need money, price it to sell quickly not for top dollar. You can also add the link to your signature so that it is advertised in every post youve made.

The way it is now, sure your thread may get kicked back a few pages after a few days but if bumps were allowed, that could happen in a matter hours due to incessant bumpers. Youll have to pay much more attention to your ads.

There are pros and cons with every system and in my opinion this one is fair and balanced. YMMV

I love searching page 2 and beyond, easy to go through the threads and get some great deals by sending a PM or an email.

BUT - "I just don't have the time to look back further than that." writes the OP, so no deals for him. I admit to sharing a bit of his frustration though with the 14 days rule BUT I completely understand and support the why of it (as has been stated by others above). The exchange would be pretty useless and boring if everyone could bump their sales. At least now when you are looking you know that for the most part you are looking at new listings and that makes the looking more fun and interesting.

I have offered the suggestion that the Individual custom exchange be set up with a separate forums - 1 for folders and 1 for fixed blades - rather than combined as it is now, but that didn't get much energy. My point was that this set up would likely give every knife a day or more on page 1 and would focus the traffic to each site. I still think that this would be a valuable addition to BF but I understand more work too. Still hopin'...

Life is hard.

Try some of the other forums that allow bumping. You will be off the first page in 15 minutes.

You can also click the "Last Post By" in the respective sale/sub-forum and change it to descending. Bookmark it or add it as a quick link favorite. Newer posts will appear at the "top."

So what you really want is to be able to bump your sales threads but for nobody else to do so, that way yours will be on top?

Because if you let everyone bump threads whenever they want, your threads are going to be right back at the bottom anyway. There's always somebody more desperate, with less of a life, and with more time on their hands than you. Hard as it might be to believe.

Let me know how it goes on Facebook groups when you bump your posts constantly. None of the gear for sale groups I belong to would tolerate that for an instant. Why dont you see how long people stay subscribed to your instagram if you keep posting the same knife for sale for the same price every couple of hours to keep it on top of their feeds.

If your knife makes it to the bottom of the page without being sold, then either there isn't enough interest or your price isn't good enough to make there be interest. If somebody is specifically searching for your knife, they will use the search and find it. I just bought a knife from a thread that was last modified a month ago because I was looking for something specific, and they had it. You don't need to keep something constantly bumped if you have a decent offering at a reasonable price.

I've often contemplated going to a pay as you go classified system.

How about having members report their thread when their items are sold and then the thread being moved to an archive?
