No Dot 110 Blade Replacement or not

That blade has a higher end steel than the current crop. I would keep the blade if possible. I would send it in for a spa treatment and repair.

This follow up is long overdue. Buck completed the spa treatment and adjusted the back spring in less than a month. Thanks to those that recommended I send it to Buck. The knife is still original and looks brand new. Total cost was about $11 with shipping! Can't beat that.

Here are the pics I took upon opening the box.

More magic from BUCKS spa department. How could you not be happy with that 11 dollar investment!!!

What do you guys think, replace the blade and use it or leave it as is?
If you must replace the blade, I would look for a used one on eBay with a blade still in good shape (but the bolsters and scales trashed) and have it placed on your knife. Otherwise leave it be.

The Buck spa did a terrific job on your grandfather's Buck - that knife still has 90% of its life ahead of it! OH

There is an option to have the blade replaced with a "correct" blade. Contact Leroy Remer at Triple R Knives. He used to work in the old custom shop and MAY have the correct blade. It may not be cheap though. The older blades are getting hard to impossible to get a hold of. He might also send the original back to you. You can find him on the Net.

This is a great idea but I'm completely satisfied with the spa treatment by Buck. They removed most of the scratches from the blade and left it with a nice satin finish with a very usable edge. While the blade has been reprofiled, I'm glad the knife is original.

Mcarb,
It really is a personal decision. On a related note, I have a like new no dot as well and think it is the best vintage of the 110; not to thick and not too thin. I also like the square edges.
