I have to admit I laugh when I watch good ole' Lynn Thompson attempt to say that his knives, that he doesn't even make, are better than anything out there. And yeah I got the catalog with the free DVD's.  I even went out and bought a medium sized Vaquero (4" blade, and it was on sale for $39.00 at a place that was closing around here).   So anyway I have tried to carry it as much as possible in order to find something wrong with it. The problem here is, I can't. I have used it quite a bit. It is on its second shapening and going strong. No blade play and solid lockup. So in the end I am pretty happy with it. Of course I have other nicer knives, but this one keeps finding it into my pocket. I might have been brainwashed during the video:eek: So who else out there likes thier CS and what model do you carry? What faults have you found in it (Not talking about the advertising, but the performance). I am just trying to start a positive CS thread. If you don't like them then don't apply below because we have all heard the bad. Just looking for faults and or good things about the performance.

The Bushman is a good strong, simple large fixed blade knife for about 15-20 bucks. Wrap a little tape around it and its a good emergency knife.

I bought a CS thrower, Carbon V. for my little Brother this christmas.
After a couple throws the tip was bent and the coating was gone.
I guess it could have been worse

I have the Ti-Lite, and I like it just fine in Titanium. My lil brother has the zytel Ti and the lock grossly fails the spine wack test otherwise its stayed sharp. I dont own many CS I want too but got more on my mind.

i picked up a used 4 inch voyager clip point combo edge for 30.00 at a gun show and have used it on numerous occasions.the lock spring is very strong, it keeps a reasonable edge even though i beat the snot out of it. all in all i have no complaints and as an added bonus i play the cold steel video and g-d bless lynn thompson i always get a laugh when i see him attack that poor rack of ribs , high

I have the El Vaquero (5inch blade). This knife was my main EDC for about a year. I love it. I've recently replaced just because i like to rotate knives every now and then. This knife is my hard use folder and i love it.

I also have the Scimitar folder. This knife has a nice blade profile and cuts great but the handle needed a litte work. Just sanded it lightly making this knife even better. The lock has been solid since i bought it.

Both great knives and more are to come in the future.

I must admit that I love the Voyager series. That Tanto shape!!!!!!!! I have a clip-point that I use all of the time. It is a plain edge and has been opened a million times. No bladeplay. I could use a handle that is more curvy, but it works fine.

I always thought the Vaquero Grande was the ugliest knife out there, especially with those fuzzy serrations. I bought one on sale and haven't stopped suing it for years. It's my folding machete on walks through the woods. Recently I bought a backup with the pocket clip, since my original had the kydex sheath.

I've got quite a few CS knives, including the latest -- at last! -- a plain edge El Hombre, the 4" version of the Vaquero. (I would like them all better without the serrations.)

Cold Steel have, and have discontinued, some pretty decent knives. I try and ignore the hype. Much to my surprise I've found the Desperado to be incredibly useful. The 'egg' handle means I can carry it in my pocket where I prefer to carry any knife. The 5" fixed blade is great for food prep. and easy to clean when I'm camping. Works great on fish when I manage to catch any. I know it's not billed as a utility knife but I think it's one of the best for the money and if you can get over its unusual style.

Where did you find that? I seacrhed a few websites and didn't find it anywhere?

I like the Carbon V models. I currently have the Recon Scout, Trailmaster Bowie, and the one that looks like the SOG bowie.

I have several models from the Voyager series, including my first one. Which is a 4-inch tanto that I bought new around October of 1998 that is still going strong, and is one of the knives I am always going back to.

I have gotten so used to the handle ergonomics of the Voyagers, that I really can't get into a lot of higher-end tactical folders with G10 handles.

Even though I quit supporting them as of late I still have several CS knives from going back to the beginnings of the company all the way up until right before I stopped buying them. The Vaquero Grande is perhaps my favorite beater upper. It has seen abuses that none of my other knives have seen and pretty much taken everybit of it. The lock up is still rock solid. Granted the serrations are all bent and no longer as good as they once were but it still cuts when you need it to. Say what you want about LT the knives do work even when you work them hard and abuse them.

RedEge77, I wish I could help you, but ... I bought it from one of the guys on the sales forums. You have to be there at the right time. :)

I like 'em as much as most inexpensive knives (not to be confused with cheap knives). If someone wants one and they ask my advice, I'm more concerned with how much they are paying, not the quality of the piece.

Had a few, currently own only the standby Trailmaster Carbon V and San Mai Shinobo (both aquired in the mid '80s).

Not a lover of sharpening their serrations, though.

You have to love them for their sheer sheeple unfriendliness :D
Not many other companies make 6 inch folding knives . And they also make many products that are illegal somewhere in the US: push knives, butterfly knife, sword cane, blowgun…
And it would be interesting to see a Benchmade and/or Spyderco “Proof” video. I have no dout that the BM and Spydie knives would do well but it would be interesting to see at what point they fail.

Oh and I like my Bushman

edit: and axes, sheeple don't like axes

I have a Gunsite II that was my main (only) EDC for over a year. It never failed me, and I really like the look and feel of it. Now my BM Mini-Ambush is my main EDC (more sheeple friendly, not that I care), but my Gunsite II still rides in my cargo pocket.

I have a Trailmaster Bowie and a SRK both in carbon V. I think they're very good knives for the money. The SRK (about $50) is a real handy knife while out on the trail or at the campsite.
