No Gerber or Kershaw listed in Manufacturer's Forums?

Erm, take a look at the Spyderco forum as an exemplar, and the Benchmade forum as an average. On Spyderco, Sal Glesser talks to BF, takes questions, complaints, and generally underlines what many love about that company - responsiveness, willingness to go the extra yard, and class.

Other forums, such as Benchmade, have a rep who moderates and sometimes answers questions but always briefs new releases. Ahem.

Either way, it is a valuable part of this community. Nobody has to look if they are not interested.
I can't think of many companies were the owner engages as often and as candidly has he does in public view.

What baffles me on this forum, is why there needs to be a company representative at all in order to have a dedicated place for knife fans to discuss their products. I don't know of any other online forums that operate this way. Am I incorrect here? It is always nice if companies are represented and can respond, but we should not require their permission in order to talk about them.
You can talk about all you want right here. A bunch of people do.

For a specific sub forum they do need to be willing to engage in 2 way communication with their customers. That's not how everyone works in the knife biz though.

The answer to every question regarding why a manufacturer acts in a certain way, whether its "appeal to the masses" or pay for an online forum, is money. Knife (and gun, etc.) companies don't exist to make us happy, though that may be a byproduct. They exist to generate revenue. This explains, for example, why Glock inexplicably will not make an OEM 15-round magazine for the G43X and 48. Glock apparently thinks these mags would eat away at G19 sales. Its revenue. The same holds true with Spyderco (salute to Mr. Sal), Benchmade, Kershaw and the all the rest. They each are acting in their own best interest, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Its just a benign fact. But it does help explain why sometimes they do X when we want Y.

Even though a 15 round after market magazine works.

I carry a 43X. Funny enough? One of the two factory mags that came with my pistol malfunctions.

I would have been better off with the after market 15 rounder. My memory fails as to the name of the maker?

Anyway, beautiful Spydie pic.
