No gravity knives?

I have been wondering why gravity knives, specifically out the front type, are not available? Given that automatic knives are legal in 40 states now you'd think there would be. I don't mean the German paratrooper type from ww2,but the slimmer European styles, from years ago. I'd think they might be less expensive to make then a double action otf. Does anyone know of any factory gravity knives on today's market? Thanks!

Because they are more of a novelty than anything else

FWIW, blue laws are laws that apply to activities on Sundays.

So unless gravity knives are legal the other 6 days then it’s not a blue law.

Sorry to nit pick.
didn't know that. always thought it was just inactive or unenforceable laws still on the books. thanks eveled.

I have a couple ww2 German ones and a modern Italian one. theyre okay. I like them but don't think I'd invest more serious money for a better made one. maybe though if it was out there eand easy to get.....

I'm sure the manufacturers have marketing studies to guide them... and they probably agree with my inexpert opinion that they're more of a "curious thing": than anything else.

I think an otf gravity knife could be very handy and, safe . It could be made sturdy and no worries about springs misfiring or edge closing on the fingers...Did I just describe the Kershaw kapsule? A manual slide otf and not a new concept, like some of the replacing blade utility cutters. Nothing new under the sun?

It looks pretty handy; but it's not a gravity knife.
In order for the blade to deploy via gravity: clearances might need to be on the "loose" side. This makes things not feel quite so solid...

I've never been interested. They never seemed the least bit practical to me. Perhaps as a teenager...

Plus, I like my d/a OTF's.

Yeah... d/a OTFs are a lot more interesting to me now.

I seem to recall that name from an old Sci-Fi movie: but which one?

i don’t know if it was in a movie. The Gravitron is an amusement park ride.
Loved that movie.

I had a German gravity knife under the name "Othello" many years ago. My younger brother borrowed it and abused it to death. It fell apart and he threw it away. Too bad, as it lasted our older brother thirty years with no problems. I'd love to find another as I really liked it.

'Blue law' is the term for any law that is selectively but rarely enforced because it's obsolete or irrelevant.

Such as blue laws about not doing things on Sundays, an example of a blue law but not the only one.
