No highs, no lows, must be Bose.

I concur...

I like pioneer when it comes to the range... but all of the middle of the road on up sound about the same the louder you crank the volume up!

:D

Well what do you expect from 2" paper drivers?

This topic receives a very thorough dissertation on this page... Bose Review

Dave, thanks for the laugh! That was pretty sharp.

I have a Nachamichi that I much preferred to the Bose I looked at, I also like the Kloss radios I've looked at more than the Wave. Also, these products usually cost less than the Bose competition.

Anyone who spends that much money on advertising MUST pass the expense on to the customer.

I don't think their stuff is that bad, just over-priced and rather flat sounding.

Right on the mark. My father recently dropped nearly $3,000 on a Bose system, it was one of those things he always wanted and was finally able to afford. He asked me to go over to set it up and, in a word, it sounds like crap. But, because he wanted it so long and was so happy to finally get it, I have to tell him that it sounds great.

Oh, the system that I could have put together for him for $3,000...

Good Evening All-

Hmmmm...a thread opened with the primary directive to "slam" a certain company. That's taking the intellectual high road.

Regardless of the intellectual merit of this topic, it's something that certainly belongs in a "gadgets and gear" discussion.

Bose offers such little value for the money that they deserve a good bashing. Far too many people are under the impression that they make good equipment.

If I can save someone from blowing thousands of dollars on something that is bound to leave them dissatisfied, then why not? Ignorance is not always bliss. There are many audio products that are clearly superior in this price range.

Edit: I said "products" too many times...

Yeah! I concur also, what ever that means.

Dr. Bose has his merits in the audio design industry but the company that carries his name and markets his ideas really blows.

There's a Bose store in the mall near me. They suck big time. High prices for crappy sound. They get like eight customers a day.
Near by is the Bang Olufsen store. Even higher prices for pretty good sound. But who cares. Its the name and prestige that your'e really buying.

I have a Bose Acoustic Wave and it sounds great to me.
To each his own I guess.

i had a friend who saved up and purchased the same above mentioned system, the first thing i wanted to do was show him what he COULD have gotten for the same money-i made the same decision as KLESK, he felt like he had a great system- and compared to the average system or to someone who`s never had a system i would imagine it sounds pretty good-especially the surround sound- but i agree that talking frankly on this forum about a company that sells products of lesser quality for twice the money- well if it helps one forumite to make a better or atleast educated decision, then it was worth the time-you could spend 3000.00 and get a pretty decent system(one that would smoke bose) and be much happier to know that you did not rely on a name or sales gimmick for your purchase decision and not find out later that you got ripped off-

worth repeating: the money spent on marketing is not sometimes but always passed on to the consumer- a realistic price for the bose system would be around 1000.00 or even less and the company would make the same profit(less marketing)- only in america-think of the number of products that are used daily that the package costs more than the product

Well, my Carver-driven Bose 601's sound pretty spectacular, compared to pretty much ANYTHING in their price range; I listened to all the cool-guy big bucks Polk, Klipsch, Martin-Logan, Magnepan and Velodyne speakers before I bought them and concluded I got my money's worth.

I will concur that many of the new "Acoustimass" products are sub par, but Bose has not always been junk. Hook a set of old 901's up to a decent amp and they remain impressive.

Audio reproduction, in the digital age, has largely gone downhill. When people conclude that music played on a cell phone is somehow worthwhile, there is little hope for the future.

To each his own - and no, you don't know as much as you might think you do.

While I'm not going to flat out bash Bose, I will say that I am very happy after spending a LOT less on my new Onkyo system.

Well, I used to say mp3's are nowhere near CD quality until I learned how to make them propperly. Take a wave file, encode it with the latest version of the Lame codec at 256kbps using the propper settings. Put three of each on a CDRW and play them on your audio system. Use shuffle and try to guess the mp3 from the wave. You might have a surprise ;)

i was trying to get a point(opinion)across earlier about a bose product without bashing ---did it anyway-i am glad that the word spectacular came up-when a person makes a purchase and uses the word spectacular-they are SATISFIED, sorry for raining on your parade-the whole idea is to be that satisfied with your purchase-ROCK ON!:D

Flava

Still easily distinguishable. Through my headphones or speakers. Now if you listen with Bose speakers or phones, thats a different story.

Could be, I don't have a high end audio system to test them, just a decent pair of headphones. Did you do this kind of test? What kind of music?

I listen to every thing. With the exception of most rap.

Maybe I am just picky but I stop even transfering my cd's to my computer because the wave format itself would piss me off.

Even a duplicator set on image burn looses some definition in audio quality.

The only cd copies I make now is from a Fostex CDR recorder. Direct digital 1 to 1 realtime copy.

Just in case your wondering, my speakers are ADS powered by and a Onkyo, a Counterpoint and a powered sub. My phones are a Sennheiser HD600 and a Sony MDR CD3000.

Don't get me wrong, I have tried your method and it sounds very good when I'm in the workshop or just have it playing in the back ground but when I sit down to enjoy music they that form of compression is no good.
