So this is my tanto flipper knife design I am calling the Adder. I wanted a pocket knife that has a sharpening stone, fire, and magnesium rods all built in. This is what I came up with. The dual pocket catcher cylcindrical clip unfastens from the end of the knife to allow the side scales to pivot swivel down showing the hidden compartments in the handle containing these things. Let me know if you like it or don't. Be honest. Both about the knife and the render.

It's pretty much to scale from a design stand point as is. But the dimensions can be tweaked of course. Because I know this will be thick. Maybe if someone like Chris Reeve made it, who had their tolerances down, it might not be so bad. But with all the items, it's going to be a bit on the thick side.

there is nothing to reference the scale...is it a foot big? or 6" long or??
I think I understand where you are going with this and I would suggest the USN crowd might be a better fit for your design. :-)

How big would you want it as a pocket knife? This is a concept so it's pretty flexible in that way.

I guess what I'm saying is the ratios of all the items are proportianate to what I would like them to be, but the overall length and what not is really flexible and would be based on what the actual maker, or users (you guys) would want.

I really don't think the crowd that starts fires with a steel wants a flipper. I could be wrong though. Come on guys. He wants some feedback.

Well I am the first to agree that this would do better as a fixed blade. Hell I wouldn't even have to change the design really. But I do :) I want a pocket survival knife with all the stuff built in. I mean when you are looking to buy a survival fixed blade knife, it's pretty shocking to me that most either don't come with a firestarter, a sharpener, or both! Now you can buy a good survival fixed blade, and have a custom sheath made to hold these things. But this is all in one without a sheath and fits (although maybe a bit bulky) in your pocket. I like that. I don't mean for it to compete with fixed blades though. This is something really nice to have as a back up.

I don't know where you are Sosa but where I am it's late. That's probably why there aren't many people ripping in to me yet :)

Hey I know how people like to tear stuff apart. But that's how you know if somethings decent or not, so I don't mind.

U sual S uspects N etwork -- they are collectors/users that are mostly interested in the tactical form of knife purchasing and collecting and have its own forum which you can join and access. Personally, I find the item you propose to be rather intriguing and interesting from both a possible using point of view and as a collectible even though I am not a tactical collector at all generally. I just happen to appreciate the effort to create something a bit different so enjoy the concept you are providing. Good luck with the project and post something when you accomplish the task and provide for those that desire it, full information on dimensions etc. I am sure you will pique others interest at that time.

Start again...

Start by defining what kind of surviving you are doing. Bushcraft, military, emergency personnel?

Then select a handle and blade shape that are useful for those kinds of tasks. Brick handles and tanto blades are not good for much mind you.

... Or go buy a mora fire knife.
